Miami Grand Prix: Max Verstappen says F1 rule changes ‘a tickle’ but Lando Norris believes drivers ‘have to be happy’

Published

The debate about this year’s rules has widened out into what might be the ideal rule-set for the future.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, said the new rules were “fundamentally just so flawed”, adding: “We’re still far away from proper F1 cars, and pushing flat-out without thinking about batteries.”

Two years ago, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem was pushing for a return to V8 or V10 naturally aspirated engines, and he is known to still be keen on the idea.

However, at the time, the engine manufacturers killed his plan.

And Russell explained that the decision was more complicated than it appears on the surface.

The Mercedes driver said: “There’s a lot of talk about going back to a V8. That would obviously be pretty cool, the sustainable fuel topic is a fantastic one, and I think would be great for Formula 1. We need to find ways to reduce the cars even more, because [reducing] the weight of the cars has been a positive impact in terms of the racing and the drivability, being able to fight close with one another.

“If you look at the ‘glory days’ of Formula 1 20 years ago where everyone says they were the best cars ever – and I still agree they were probably the coolest cars we ever saw in Formula 1 in the early 2000s – there was no overtaking at all. So it’s something we need to remember and we need to think about for the next time.”

Knicks’ 47-point halftime lead vs. Hawks sets record for largest in NBA playoff history

The Atlanta Hawks arrived for a must-win Game 6 against the New York Knicks on Thursday in their home State Farm Arena. They ran out to a 9-5 lead through about three minutes of play.

That was the last shred of competitiveness in the half.

The Knicks blitzed the Hawks off the opening tip, racing to an 83-36 halftime lead. The 47-point halftime margin is the largest in NBA playoff history, breaking the record of 41 points shared by the Indiana Pacers in 2025 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. It approached the largest halftime lead in any NBA regular-season or playoff game (50 points).

As expected with such a lopsided score, emotions ran high. With 4:39 left in the first half and the Knicks up 50 points, Atlanta forward Dyson Daniels threw an elbow into Knicks center Mitchell Robinson’s rib cage on a free throw. Robinson then grabbed Daniels around the neck and walked him several feet until a brief scuffle ensued between the two teams.

Knicks coach Mike Brown fell while trying to break up the altercation.

Robinson was initially issued a loose-ball foul, but upon review, both players received offsetting technicals and were ejected. The Knicks’ roster applauded their center as he exited the court.

The Knicks shot 65.1 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from deep with seven made 3s in the half. OG Anunoby led the way, scoring 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting in the first half. He has averaged 20 points per game over the course of this entire series.

New York had as many steals (12) as the Hawks had field goals made in the half.

This story will be updated.

Jorgen Strand Larsen: Norway striker steps up after difficult start at Crystal Palace

Published

On their impressive European run, Palace have shown they are not just about individuals, but a team stepping up when it matters.

Japan midfielder Kamada had not scored since October 2024 before his composed finish on Thursday restored Palace’s lead just as Shakhtar looked to be taking control following their equaliser at 1-1.

Palace fans were in great spirits before the match in Krakow, and there’s a feeling that all connected with the club are pulling in the same direction.

There could be an air of sadness for the remainder of the campaign with boss Glasner, who led Palace to a fairytale FA Cup victory last season, just two games away from European glory before he departs this summer.

But spirits instead seem high as the club work together to achieve the goal of winning more silverware.

“It’s an amazing group of people, of men, of characters,” said Glasner, who won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.

“There is such a big spirit and great togetherness and we always believe in ourselves.

“There is no button we can press to switch it on. It is something we have created over months and years – that we know we can always come back and score a goal.”
