World Cup 2026: How much would it cost to go as an England or Scotland fan?
Our two England fans fly out of Heathrow on Monday, 15 June with return flights to JFK in New York costing just over £500 each – which is good value.
With the Three Lions’ final group game taking place in New Jersey, it is the most cost-effective way to travel to the US and back, with the first stop being Dallas.
After landing in the States, they pick up a flight to Dallas the same night – this costs £283 per person.
Four nights at the Hampton Inn & Suites Dallas Market Center cost £624 (£156 a night) for a twin.
Double rooms, which are more available in all cities, come in cheaper at the Hilton Dallas Medical District at £560 (£140 a night).
Both properties have breakfast included, meaning Dallas – which also has free shuttle buses from stations to the stadium in Arlington – is an affordable start to the trip.
The England supporters fly to Boston on Friday, 19 June with the fare £378 each.
Boston is at the other end of the scale as one of the more expensive host cities for accommodation.
Our couple stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Boston Crosstown Center, costing £1,650 (£330 a night), including breakfast, for five nights.
The cheapest twin-bed option in the city itself is £2,041 (£408 a night) without breakfast at the Courtyard Boston Downtown/North Station.
It is possible to book a hotel near the airport £500 cheaper but with five days in the city, it may not be worth the saving.
With England’s third game being in New Jersey, there is no need to take a flight. The supporters can hop on the Amtrak train to New York on Wednesday, 24 June with tickets £42 each.
Unlike in Boston, there are still lots of hotel options in New York with a five-night stay before the flight home on 29 June.
A double at the Truss Hotel Times Square costs £1,184 (£237 a night) while a twin at the AMTD Idea Tribeca Hotel is £1,275 (£255 a night).
This time, however, you will need to head out for breakfast.
But the last two games come with a sting – train tickets to the stadiums cost £59 per person from Boston and £114 from New York.
Just to get to the States and travel around, the estimated costs for two friends are £6,273 and for a couple £5,855.
And what of the family? It is going to cost £9,008 to get to the States, get around and put your heads down.
Costs are helped by some hotels offering free stays for children.
In Dallas, the Comfort Inn Dallas Medical-Market Center costs £627 (£156 a night).
The same Hampton Inn is used in Boston with a higher cost of £1,763 (£353 a night).
Over in New York, the Holiday Inn in Times Square costs £1,589 (£318 a night).

Aryna Sabalenka and Cameron Norrie lose at Canadian Open
Women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka suffered a surprise defeat in the Canadian Open weeks before she begins her US Open title defence, while Britain’s Cameron Norrie also bowed out in the last 16.
Sabalenka lost 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-4 to Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova in a match lasting almost two and a half hours in Toronto.
The Belarusian recovered from a set down to force a decider, but a double fault when serving to stay in the match handed the number 16 seed victory.
It is the latest defeat in what has been a difficult summer for Sabalenka, who was knocked out in the quarter-finals and last 16 of the French Open and Wimbledon respectively.
“I just tried to play every single point as if it was the last one because with her, you don’t [get] a lot of chances during the match,” Alexandrova said.
“I’m super happy that I could win because after the second set, I thought [the chance] was already past me.”
The Russian will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina for a place in the semi-finals, after she defeated American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova 6-2 6-4.
Third seed Jessica Pegula suffered a first career loss to Diana Shnaider, as the 22-year-old finished both sets strongly to win 6-3 6-3.
The Russian will face Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals, after the seventh seed overcame opening set service troubles to defeat 10th seed Marta Kostyuk 3-6 6-1 6-2.
The six-time Grand Slam winner retired to the locker room after Kostyuk broke her serve four times during a shambolic a 39-minute opening set, but looked much improved when she returned.
In the men’s event in Montreal, British number two Cameron Norrie spurned two set-point opportunities as he was defeated 6-2 7-6 (10-8) by 18th seed Arthur Fils.
Norrie saved three match points in the second set to force a tie-break, but the Frenchman broke his serve to win in one hour and 43 minutes.
Fils will meet Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar in the quarter-finals, after the 19-year-old upset eighth seed Jiri Lehecka 6-3 6-3.
Brandon Nakashima and Luciano Darderi also progressed to the next round with gruelling three-set victories over Arthur Rinderknech and Nuno Borges respectively.
Italian Darderi used a mid-match changeover to enjoy an espresso as he battled to a 4-6 6-3 7-5 win.

Women’s cycling: Why is it so hard to run a team?
“We were lucky if we even saw half a million [as a team], I’d say,” says the former rider.
“There was even no money at team camps and other stuff they didn’t pay for. There were big bills.
“I know there were other riders still owed money – a lot of it.”
It all began with some modest results, but a 15th place at the 2025 Women’s Tour of Britain was about as good as it got in the bigger races, and the team never made it above ‘continental’ level, which is the third tier of women’s road cycling.
The rider says: “There were reasonable money issues from the start where riders were paid late or wouldn’t get reimbursements.
“It pushes you into [bad] situations.”
And it wasn’t just the riders – business partners who supplied the team with equipment are owed a lot of money.
One mechanic – who asked to remain anonymous through fear of having any future employment jeopardised – claims to have had to find hire vehicles a day before a race upon landing at an airport to discover nothing had been arranged.
As well as trying to prepare bikes and equipment – while finding his own way to pay for it.
Money was promised to be settled at various stated points since the team’s demise in August last year, but the latest statement from Hess says ”negotiations regarding funding is ongoing despite headwinds and a difficult market situation”.
Some have been waiting to be paid for a year.
In a statement Hess said: “Unfortunately, [our] sponsor withdrew from the partnership at the beginning of 2025.
“Hess Sports Group continued to fund operations, contributing more than £200,000 over the course of summer 2025, while working to enable the team to compete under a financially sustainable model.
“This shortfall in funding had a material impact on our operations, but allowed our athletes to compete while we worked on securing the team’s future.
“Hess Sports Group remains committed to repaying all its creditors.”
At the outset, Hess the man was full of passion for the project, and praise for the athletes.
But there were plenty of other distractions given the Hess Group includes oil and gas producer Carraigmore, water purification companies and make-up businesses.
The civil claim initiated against a group which includes the director of the cycling team was in Spain, over accusations of misleading investors for the delayed floating of a water company on the stock market. The allegations are denied.
Norbert Stocker, a member of the cycling team’s management, told BBC Sport the loss of a title sponsor occurred after the sponsor was spooked over the allegations relating to the water company.
“To influence the commercial negotiations with equity investors in a separate company, the cycling team was targeted to exert pressure, even though it is wholly unrelated,” he said.
“Although all the claims are unfounded, media speculation destabilised the relationship with the cycling team’s core external sponsor.”
