The Athletic college baseball top 25: Kansas moves into top 10, Auburn climbs to No. 6

Kansas baseball players celebrate against Kansas State.

Once again, there wasn’t much movement throughout the top 25. The top five teams won their weekend series — or their one game, in North Carolina’s case. Auburn posted an impressive win at Texas A&M and switched spots with the Aggies, moving from seventh to sixth.

Kansas is up three spots, to No. 8, after another weekend sweep. The Jayhawks have won eight straight in Big 12 play and have a four-game lead with six to play.

It was tough to sort out the glut of SEC teams in the middle of the ranking. Florida, which took two of three at Oklahoma, leads that pack (for now) at No. 11, followed by Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Coastal Carolina lost to Georgia Southern on Sunday but is up five spots due to a nice midweek win at North Carolina and the return of All-American pitcher Cam Flukey.

Nebraska was the only team in the bottom half of last week’s ranking to have a losing week. The Huskers got swept at Ohio State.

With so much uncertainty around the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight, even their first press conference has been thrown into doubt.

Fury and Joshua have a rivalry that’s been more than a decade in the making. This week the fight was finally set for December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, but within 48 hours of it being announced a promotional dispute erupted leading to mounting speculation that the mega-fight could be called off.

Fury and Joshua’s first head-to-head press conference was due to take place on Wednesday. But that may not go ahead now.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports: “At the moment nothing confirmed for next week press conference wise.”

As to whether Fury could hold one without Joshua and Hearn, the Matchroom promoter said: “With regards to are we expecting to be there, there wouldn’t be one without us.”

Dillian Whyte believes that rumours the fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could fall through is nothing more than mind games – and gives his prediction for the fight

The announcement for the long-awaited Fury-AJ fight stated that Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and Dana White were staging the bout, although Hearn has publicly claimed the American promoter cannot be involved.

Speaking after Johnny Fisher’s victory over Michael Pirotton on Saturday night, White revealed he was uncertain whether the Fury-AJ fight itself would still go ahead. As to whether Wednesday’s press conference would happen, White said: “I have no idea.”

He also didn’t confirm whether he’d be in attendance himself. “I guess I’ll leave that as a surprise,” White said.

Chelsea Women 1 – 0 Arsenal Women

Published

on

Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal as Chelsea secured a 1-0 win against Arsenal to end their unbeaten streak in the Women’s Super League.

Arsenal failed to make their early dominance count after striking the post twice through Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey before Thompson broke the deadlock at Stamford Bridge.

Keira Walsh’s strike from distance was initially well kept out by Anneke Borbe, but the goalkeeper was left helpless when Thompson pounced in the box to fire home the rebound in emphatic style.

The Gunners – who had drawn their last two WSL matches – improved in the second half, with Chloe Kelly’s angled drive blocked and Alessia Russo’s shot charged down, but the hosts saw out the closing stages for a third WSL win.

Their unbeaten streak in the WSL, stretching back to October 2025, came to an end with it. The Gunners had not tasted defeat in their last 20 games before their trip to west London.

Victory takes Chelsea to within two points of league leaders Manchester City at the top of the table, while Arsenal are already seven points adrift ahead of their meeting with the champions on October 4.
