The participants in the NHL Draft Lottery are the 16 teams that did not make this year’s playoffs.
14 lottery balls are drawn to create a set of four-number combinations. The team with the worse record has the highest odds to get the first pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. This year that honor belongs to the Vancouver Canucks at 18.5 percent.
Two separate draws occur for the first two picks in the 2026 NHL Draft. A team can move up a maximum of 10 spots.
