Adam Webster is set to leave Brighton & Hove Albion by mutual consent after seven years at the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The central defender, 31, suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury on a pre-season training camp in Spain last July and has not kicked a ball during the current campaign.

Webster has made 158 appearances in all competitions under three head coaches since joining Brighton for a then-record club fee of £20million from Championship side Bristol City in August 2019.

Injuries have blighted his time at the Amex Stadium. Webster was under consideration by former head coach Gareth Southgate for an England call-up when he sustained ankle damage in February 2021.

Webster played 94 times under Graham Potter, 44 games for Roberto De Zerbi and 20 matches last season for Fabian Hurzeler.

Speaking on the club website after Webster suffered the knee injury, Hurzeler said it was “a blow for us, as he has been an important player; he is a big character and a leader within the squad.”

Webster’s departure will form part of a refresh of Brighton’s pool of central defenders this summer. Brazilian Igor Julio is also likely to leave and Jan Paul van Hecke could be sold, with the Dutch international out of contract in 2027 and so far there is no indication that he will sign a new deal.

Long-serving skipper Lewis Dunk has a deal until 2027. Olivier Boscagli and Diego Coppola could feature more prominently next season after limited game time since signing last summer and a loan move for Coppola to Paris FC in January.

Eiran Cashin has spent the season on loan to Birmingham and Blackburn Rovers in the Championship following two substitute appearances since arriving in the January 2025 transfer window.
