Episode 7 – Always a Catch!

Everyone who’s been waiting to see Mimi use her hair pin as a weapon, this episode’s for you. Yes, at long last, the pin is out of the hair and on the hand, ready to punch the snot out of some bad guys, some mediocre guys, and one obnoxiously gassy guy. It’s pretty much everything you could want out of a girl who wears brass knuckles in her hair. Plus there’s a fart joke, so really, this episode has something for everyone, assuming “everyone” means “people who find fart jokes really funny” and “people who wanted to see Mimi use her hair ornament for its intended purpose.”

Beyond that, episode seven shows a remarkable commitment to narrative. We’ve been building up to this moment for a while now – not only in terms of Mimi encountering the bandits and the distraught villagers on her way back home, but also in her teaching Renato a single move from the Annovazzi family playbook before she left and sending the villagers to Raimondo. It’s a remarkably neat gathering of the story’s threads, as by the end of the episode, everything has come together beautifully. Renato whipping out and perfectly executing Number 38 also addresses Duke Annovazzi’s concerns about his future son-in-law, because it shows that while he hasn’t been trained to be physically strong and to protect himself, he’s more than capable of learning.

I love the visuals around this section of the episode. Between Mimi’s desperately outstretched fingers and the sudden slide and stomp of Renato’s foot, everything carries a lot of emotion. It’s perhaps not the sort of thing that would stand out in a series like Witch Hat Atelier with its consistently phenomenal animation, but for Always a Catch!, it’s a striking departure. Up to this point, most of the animation and art has focused on lighter, sillier elements, like Mimi’s “soo-mow” inspired side-stepping, while moments like Mimi putting her hand in Teo’s is a bit awkward looking. But the entire sequence of Mimi realizing she’ll never make it to Renato in time and Renato preparing himself to prove himself shows a lot of care and attention to detail. It’s a good choice of scene to get this treatment, because it really does show how invested Mimi and Renato are in each other. Raimondo may be aghast that his prince punched a man, but to Mimi it shows that her fiancé not only loves her, he’s working hard to meet her where she lives. He doesn’t expect her to change for him; he’s going to change for her.

That’s very sweet as well as consistent with this episode’s theme of true love. Veronica, the missing villager, wasn’t kidnapped at all, she ran away to be with her beloved, the son of a local lord. When Mimi meets them (after scaring herself by walking in on an old woman knitting), they’re about to run away so that the lordling’s dad can’t make him marry a noblewoman. Rather than being upset she’s been sent on a wild goose chase (and been made to defend the [false] idea that ladies don’t fart), she’s delighted to find out that she can now help the lovers escape. Mimi is all about using her powers for good, whether that’s punching bandits or protecting True Love™. And that she’s protecting another couple when she can’t protect her own fiancé makes the scene of Renato fighting back feel even more significant.

Now the only question that remains is whether or not Renato mastering Number 38 will be enough for Mimi’s dad.

The staff for the television anime of Isle Osaki‘s Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers (Shinja Zero no Megami-sama to Hajimeru Isekai Kōryaku, or Clear the world like a game with the zero believers goddess) light novel series started streaming the anime’s first promotional video on Wednesday. The video previews the opening theme song “Mirai no Ashiato” (Footprints of the Future) by artist 310 (read as Satō).

J-Novel Club licensed both the novel series and its manga adaptation, and it describes the story:

Makoto Takatsuki is a normal high school student and a hardcore RPG player. However, “normal” goes out the window when his whole class is involved in a bus crash and whisked away to another world! Powerful gods rule this strange new land of magic and monsters, and every newcomer is blessed with strong stats and unique skills. Well, not quite. Makoto’s stats turn out to be pathetic, and his skills are super weak compared to his classmates’…he’s even stuck as an apprentice mage. Worse still, he’s given only ten years to live!

Luckily, Makoto soon meets a minor goddess named Noah, who appears in Makoto’s dreams and asks him to become her first believer. With the help of Noah’s blessings and a divine weapon, Makoto seeks to become strong enough to rescue his goddess from the dungeon where she’s been trapped. By training hard and using his weak skills in unorthodox ways, Makoto proves that, even when playing on hardcore difficulty, an RPG player always makes it to the end!

The anime will star:

Riki Fukushima (Tamayomi: The Baseball Girls, Skate-Leading Stars, Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. season 2) is directing the anime at HORNETS. Tōko Machida (Tamayomi: The Baseball Girls, My Master Has No Tail) is writing and supervising the series’ scripts. Noriko Itō (Undead Murder Farce) is designing the characters, while Minoru Tanaka is the sub-character designer. Itō and Tanaka are also the chief animation directors along with Yoshihiro Nagamori, who is also the monster designer. Chiharu Nishimura is the prop designer. Nobuaki Kikuchi is the CG director. Chiho Nakamura and Masao Ōba are the color designers. Yasutoshi Kawai is the art director. Ayumu Kaikiri (Studio Twinkle) is the compositing director of photography. Takahiro Adachi (IMAGICA EMS) is in charge of editing. Hiroto Morishita is the sound director, while Dax Production is credited for sound production. AstroNoteS is composing the music.

Suupeas will perform the ending theme song “Fall in Dream.”

The anime will preniere on October 11 on the BS Asahi channel, and will stream simultaneously on the d Anime Store, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai streaming services at 11:30 p.m. JST (10:30 a.m. EDT). The anime will also run on the Tokyo MX and AT-X channels.

Osaki began the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō service in May 2018. Overlap Bunko began publishing the novel series in March 2019. The novels ended in its 14th volume, which shipped on September 20. Hakuto Shiroi launched the manga adaptation on the Comic Gardo service in April 2020. Overlap will publish the manga’s 11th compiled book volume on October 8. J-Novel Club published the novel’s 12th volume in English in October 2024.

Lego Unveils Dragon Ball’s Shenron Set – Interest

Days after Lego Japan teased a Dragon Ball set, the toy brick company officially pulled the wraps off a new set inspired by the legendary anime and manga series. The new Lego Icons Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku set includes the seven Dragon Balls and series protagonist Son Goku riding his Kintoun cloud. Lego Japan even used the iconic Shenron quote, “State your wish. I shall only grant one.”

The set will ship on November 4 for US$179.99. Lego Insider members will have early access to the set on November 1.

The set will include 1,764 pieces and a Kid Goku minifigure, which the builder can reposition on the set to “create various storytelling moments, honouring the bond between Goku and Shenron while giving fans the freedom to shape their own story through the model’s display options.”

Lego Japan teased the Lego Icons Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku set on September 22.

Lego is no stranger to anime, manga, and similar stories. In January 2025, Lego announced sets based on the live-action One Piece series, and unveiled a KPop Demon Hunters Lego set last February. Lego and Netflix further announced a two-part Lego One Piece animated special in April 2026. The special released on Tuesday.

The late Akira Toriyama‘s Dragon Ball manga ran in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump imprint from 1984 to 1995, and is still inspiring manga and anime sequels and spinoffs today. The Dragon Ball Super: Beerus television anime series will begin airing on the Fuji TV channel and its affiliates on October 11 at 11:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. EDT).

Mazenchu Anime Posts Opening Video Narrated by Actress First Summer Uika – News

The staff for the television anime of TORCH‘s Mazenchu character brand announced on Wednesday that actress First Summer Uika is providing the anime’s opening narration. The staff also began streaming the anime’s opening video with Uika’s narration:

Mazenchu is set in a school where all kinds of food can live out their youth and form friendships, rivalries, and bittersweet romances.

The cast includes:

Ebi created the Mazenchu characters. Yūsuke Takase (CG on Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King, Halo Legends, Detroit Metal City) is directing the anime at Studio Nanahoshi. The studio dugout is producing the sound, and Aiin is producing the music. BONJIN is the offline editor. Liberty Animation Studio produced the opening animation. Sayo Kawase is the executive producer, and TORCH is planning and producing the project.

The anime will begin airing on October 7 as the first original anime within Kansai TV‘s morning news and lifestyle program Yoidon!
