Taylor Swift Wedding: NY Rep Slammed by Fans Over Security Criticism
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) drew backlash from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s fans after complaining about the cost of the couple’s wedding security.
On Thursday, as security heightened around Madison Square Garden in New York City ahead of Swift and Kelce’s nuptials, Congresswoman Malliotakis took to X to sound off on the impact the A-list affair may have on taxpayers.
“Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce should reimburse NYPD for the 130 officers needed per day to keep their multi-million dollar, thousand person wedding at MSG safe,” Malliotakis wrote. “Our officers are already working overtime for 4th of July festivities & NYC taxpayers should NOT be on the hook.”
However, as it remained unclear regarding who would actually foot the bill for the exorbitant security detail, many Swifties came to the couple’s defense, citing their recent charitable donations as evidence of the pair’s thoughtfulness.
“They’re too busy donating to nonprofit organizations in need, maybe you should give it a try,” one critic on X hit back. “Oh wait, you won’t.” A second critic, alongside a screenshot touting Swift and Kelce’s millions in charitable donations, added: “Oh f–k off.”
Another chimed in with, “Trump should reimburse the NYPD for the thousands of officers that were needed for his trip to Madison Square Garden for game 3 of the NBA Finals. No one wanted that muthaf—a there. As for Taylor Swift, she’s always welcome to the barbecue free of charge.”
A third commented, “Congresswoman, you’re assuming she’s not paying. NYPD wouldn’t answer the question who was paying. So, for all we know she is.”
As we mentioned, Malliotakis’ criticism came on the heels of the pop star and NFL tight end donating $26 million across 20 charities ahead of their wedding. In fact, Answer the Call, the N.Y. Police and Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund, was notably on the list of recipients.
In response to the generous contribution, the nonprofit took to Instagram on Thursday and wrote, “We are extremely grateful to Taylor and Travis for their incredible support of Answer the Call. Their extraordinary donation will ensure that we can continue to provide much-needed financial assistance to the families of New York City’s fallen first responders. We thank them for their kindness, their generosity and for their fullfillment of our collective promise to Never Forget. Because of their support, our families will continue to receive the care and assistance they deserve, and they will never have to walk this journey alone.”

8 Best New Movies and Shows to Stream This Week (July 3-5)
This week’s streaming premieres include an “Adventure Time” reboot on Disney+, as well as the video-on-demand debuts of two of this year’s biggest theatrical hits. In addition to its “Adventure Time” spin-off, Disney+ has another major animated premiere on its slate this week, while Amazon’s Prime Video has finally rolled out the first season of its “Legally Blonde” prequel. Elsewhere, Netflix has the third installment in one of its biggest film franchises premiering this week and Apple TV has the Season 3 premiere of a beloved sci-fi series slated for Friday.
Here are the eight best new movies and shows you can stream this weekend.

“Adventure Time: Side Quests” (Disney+)
“Adventure Time” has been soft-rebooted this week in the form of Cartoon Network’s latest series, “Adventure Time: Side Quests.” Developed by Nate Cash, “Side Quests” is set during the early years of “Adventure Time” and focuses on the origin of the childhood bond between Finn the Human (Sasha Knight) and his magical dog Jake (John DiMaggio).
Comprised of standalone, episodic stories, the series’ complete, 20-installment first season premiered all at once Monday on Disney+ and Hulu. For “Adventure Time” fans, diving into “Side Quests” might just be the perfect way to spend this year’s July 4th holiday weekend.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” (2026)
“The Devil Wears Prada 2,” one of this year’s biggest films, has finally become available to rent and buy to stream at home. Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the “Devil Wears Prada” sequel catches back up with Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she is hired to help former boss Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) navigate new media and corporate threats.
Hathaway, Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt all returned to reprise their original “Devil Wears Prada” roles for the sequel, which received positive reviews when it hit theaters in early May. Now, those who missed it on the big screen have a chance to finally catch up with it at home this weekend.

“Obsession” (2026)
“Obsession,” this year’s biggest surprise hit, has also arrived on the VOD market this week. Written, directed and edited by YouTuber-turned-filmmaker Curry Barker, “Obsession” is a prickly horror comedy about a music store employee (Michael Johnston) whose use of a supernatural toy to make his crush (Inde Navarrette) fall in love with him ends up having disastrous consequences for him, her and everyone trapped in their orbit.
Made with stunning confidence and featuring a star-making, awe-inspiring lead performance from Navarrette, “Obsession” has emerged as one of this year’s most important films for a reason. If you haven’t checked it out yet, this weekend is as good a time as any to finally do so.

“X-Men ’97” Season 2 (Disney+)
It has been over two years since Disney+ unveiled the first season of “X-Men ’97,” Marvel’s ambitious revival of “X-Men: The Animated Series.” Fortunately, the fan-favorite superhero revival show has finally returned with its second season, which premiered Wednesday on Disney+.
Catching back up with the series’ iconic crew of mutant superheroes and villains, “X-Men ’97” Season 2 promises to deliver many of the same comic book thrills and twists that made fans originally fall in love with the show. The season’s first three episodes are all streaming now on Disney+.

“Elle” Season 1 (Prime Video)
“Elle,” one of 2026’s most unlikely bits of franchise expansion, has arrived on Amazon’s Prime Video this week. Developed by Laura Kittrell, the “Legally Blonde” prequel is set six years before the events of 2001’s “Legally Blonde.” Newcomer Lexi Minetree steps into Reese Witherspoon’s iconic shoes as Elle Woods, whom the new show follows as she navigates the trials and tribulations of high school in 1990s Seattle.
In addition to Minetree, the series’ ensemble cast includes June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle Woods’ parents. The complete first season of “Elle” premiered Wednesday on Prime Video, and those who are considering tuning in this weekend may be excited to learn that the series has already been renewed for a second season.

“Enola Holmes 3” (Netflix)
The title for Netflix’s biggest streaming premiere this week goes to “Enola Holmes 3.” “Adolescence” director Philip Barantini’s “Enola Holmes” sequel catches up with Millie Bobby Brown’s young detective as she travels to Malta to investigate her most dangerous case yet.
In addition to Brown, Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel and Susan Wokoma all reprise their roles from the first two “Enola Holmes” films in the new adventure, which premiered Wednesday on Netflix. If you are a fan of the “Enola Holmes” franchise, dedicating a few hours this weekend to its latest chapter feels like a bit of a no-brainer.

“Worst Neighbor Ever” (Netflix)
“Enola Holmes 3” is not the only noteworthy title premiering on Netflix this week. The streaming service also has a new treat for true crime fans: “Worst Neighbor Ever.” The docuseries from director Cynthia Childs, a spin-off of “Worst Roommate Ever,” explores real-life cases of violence, harassment and crime between feuding neighbors.
Featuring interviews with individuals involved in each case, “Worst Neighbor Ever” promises to give true crime fanatics everywhere deep dives some into instances of explosive neighborly crime. All four of its episodes premiered Wednesday on Netflix.

“Silo” Season 3 (Apple TV)
Apple TV is celebrating this year’s Fourth of July holiday weekend with the premiere of “Silo” Season 3. Debuting over a year after its sophomore run ended, “Silo” Season 3 splits its focus between its “present” story, which catches back up with Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) as she grapples with memory loss from her forced “cleaning,” and a new, flashback plot about a journalist (Jessica Henwick) and a Congressman (Ashley Zuckerman) who uncover a conspiracy that carries potentially irreversible consequences.
The season’s first chapter premieres Friday. Like Prime Video’s “Elle,” “Silo” has already been renewed for another season, which will be its last.

Ciara Miller Rips ‘Love Island’ Trolls for Taking Aim at Her ‘Aftersun’ Work
There’s a select group of people who have faced the microscopic view after a reality TV series makes its way into the mainstream, and “Summer House” star Ciara Miller certainly makes the cut after the relationship drama between herself, Amanda Batula and West Wilson erupted in the midst of Season 10.
It’s why Miller is confident she is approaching her hosting gig on “Love Island USA: Aftersun” with empathy towards the contestants (a.k.a islanders), and especially why she won’t put up with social media trolls critiquing her and Tefi Pessoa’s treatment of islanders.
“I sit in this position knowing what it’s like to be on reality TV, and to be a Black woman on reality TV … especially in this day and age,” Miller told TheWrap, noting there are “perspectives and nuances” she understands and takes into account in conversations with the islanders. “I want them to be seen, heard.”
Miller added that she does show “a certain amount of favoritism to the Black islanders,” noting “because they are me, I am them, I was them, and that is my community.”
“It’s an uphill battle with them being able to be understood, and I want to help them be understood in a different light,” Miller continued. “That’s never something I take for granted — being in this position and sitting in this seat, and that is why it is so important to humanize these people.”
With that level of attention in mind, Miller won’t stand for trolls, leading her to clap back in a post on Threads. “Honestly, respectfully, sit the f–k down. I literally lived it,” Miller said of any haters. “I’ve done a really great job over the past five, six years in reality TV being quiet on certain things, and I kind of feel … that is over.”
“Never disrespect my baby,” Pessoa, who similarly posted on social media about navigating viewers’ critiques of the duo being “too biased and then too unbiased,” added.

As Miller and Pessoa took the helm of the refurbished “Aftersun” show, which airs Saturdays, their main goal was to humanize the islanders and give the audience insight into who they are beyond their “Love Island” edit, which shrinks 24 hours into one hour episodes.
“I know what it’s like to be on reality TV, and for the audience to have a parasocial relationship with you,” Miller said. “But there’s so much more beyond what the audience is even seeing — there’s so much more of these islanders’ stories that we don’t know about, and you don’t really get to see in like such a fast-moving ensemble cast. So it really gives them the space to be able to like, know more about them, and also they get to spill a little tea.”
Pessoa said she hopes “Aftersun” feels like a “glam dining room” for the dumped islanders, where they can spill all about their time on the show in the safety of Pessoa and Miller.
“Sometimes these islanders … they would go to these podcasts where maybe they weren’t safe, or maybe they felt maybe being taken advantage of or something,” Pessoa said. “I very much have that in mind too, that we are the first friendly faces that aren’t production when they get off the island, and … I know that we’ll take care of them.”
The duo trusts the other inherently, though initially they were both picturing it would be a one-woman gig. “During the during my last interview … they were like, ‘Would you have a co-host,’ and I said ‘no,’ and they said, ‘What about Ciara Miller?’ I said, ‘oh my god, I would love that,’” Pessoa recalled.
“They were like, would you want to have a co-host and I was like, ‘no, no,’ and ‘They’re [like] well, what about Tefi,’ and I was like, ‘Actually, yes,’” Miller added.
The refreshed “Aftersun” has already worked: the first couple episodes more than doubled last year’s audience — rising 144% from Season 7 “Aftersun” episodes — demonstrating that the phenomenon of “Love Island” keeps growing.
“Everybody remembers a best friend break up or having a friend that you’re excited about betraying you,” Pessoa said. “There are all these dynamics that come with being a person in their 20s … you want to be liked, and you want to find love … that’s an exaggerated situation, but still we can all relate to every single one of them in some way. You can be mad at KC, but you also know how good it feels to be pursued.”
“Love Island USA” drops new episodes everyday on Peacock except Sundays at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Causes Stir Outside MSG
It’s official: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will have their blowout wedding bash at Madison Square Garden, and the pop star’s carpenters are hard at work transforming the arena into a proper wedding venue.
Though some fans theorized that the load-in at MSG was part of an elaborate ruse, a memo from the New York Police Department confirmed that the “Love Story” singer is indeed tying the knot at the famed New York City arena.
In the days leading up to the festivities, MSG has seen heightened security, police presence and production crews. Photos from the venue show men driving lifts wearing brown “Taylor Swift’s Carpenters” T-shirts. As of Wednesday, the blocks surrounding the venue were already barricaded, with more set up Thursday.
The NYPD memo also revealed that Swift will host a private rehearsal dinner party Thursday night for roughly 100 guests, while the main event will take place Friday with as many as 1,000 guests, according to the New York Times.
The report also noted that police deployment for the pop star’s two-day festivities will not quite amount to the show of force that surrounded the N.B.A. finals, when thousands of officers were sent to monitor fans for the Knicks’ victory parade.
Swift teased in an interview with on “The Graham Norton Show” in October that she wanted to have a large wedding, even joking that she would invite anyone she’s ever talked to.
“I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble,” she said at the time. “And you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them to see if they should be there. I’m not going to do that.”
