Summer Time Rendering Manga Gets Live-Action Film in 2027 – News

Ken Ninomiya directs film based on Yasuki Tanaka‘s suspense manga

The official X/Twitter account for Yasuki Tanaka‘s Summer Time Rendering suspense manga announced on Wednesday, July 22 (the same date the events in the series begin) that the franchise is getting a live-action film in 2027. Ken Ninomiya is directing the film.

A live-action project was initially announced in 2021 alongside the anime’s announcement after the manga ended.

The anime adaptation premiered on April 2022 on the Tokyo MX and BS11 channels. Disney+ streamed the anime worldwide and exclusively in Japan. Hulu streamed the series in the U.S. The show has 25 episodes and covers the entire manga. Ayumu Watanabe (Space Brothers, Children of the Sea) directed the anime.

Publisher Shueisha describes the story:

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island. What mysteries await him on this secluded summer island?

Tanaka launched the manga on Shonen Jump+ in October 2017, and the manga’s 13th and final compiled book volume shipped in April 2021. Shueisha launched its MANGA Plus service with the English version of the manga in January 2019. Udon Entertainment licensed the manga for print.

The manga also inspired a game that launched on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in January 2023.

‘Doko yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e’ Unveils Additional Cast, Theme Song, Main Trailer

The official website of the Doko yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e (To You in the Beyond) movie unveiled additional cast, the main visual (pictured right), and trailer on Wednesday. The anime movie adapting Akiko Abe‘s mystery romance novel was previewed at Anime Expo on July 4 and will open in Japanese theaters on October 9.

Tamaki Mishima: Sumire Uesaka (Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!)

Shuuji Aiba: Wataru Hatano (Fate/strange Fake)

Akimitsu Yano: Nobuhiko Okamoto (Akujiki Reijou to Kyouketsu Koushaku)

Yoshiki Suka: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Chou Kaguya-hime!)

Singer-songwriter Tota (Anne Shirley) is performing the theme song “Olive,” which is featured in the trailer below.

Junichi Wada (Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu) is helming the anime at TMS Entertainment. Sayaka Kuwamura (Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi) is penning the script. Fumi Katou (Ame wo Tsugeru Hyouryuu Danchi) is designing the characters, while Kouji Nakamura (Eureka Seven AO) is composing the music.

Abe wrote the novel under Shueisha’s Orange Bunko imprint in October 2017, featuring illustrations by syo5.

Haruka Chino began drawing a manga adaptation in Tonari no Young Jump magazine in August 2025. The first volume went on sale on February 19.

A relatively new national holiday in Japan, the holiday traces its origins to the Meiji Emperor’s 1876 return voyage from a tour of the Tohoku region on the lighthouse tender ship Meiji Maru.
