Elon Musk Vows to Remake ‘The Odyssey’ With AI by Year’s End

Elon Musk vowed to use artificial intelligence to create his own version of “The Odyssey” after becoming a vocal critic of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation.

The tech mogul shared word of his new project on X Tuesday evening, reposting one user’s footage of a Grok-made “Odyssey” scene inspired by Homer’s epic poem.

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of ‘The Odyssey’ that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote, without offering any further details on the venture. Watch footage of the AI-generated “Odyssey” below.

Additionally, in a separate X post, Musk noted he was “down” with one fan’s suggestion of giving “Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.”

Musk’s motivation to create his own movie adaptation of “The Odyssey” isn’t necessarily surprising, given he’s repeatedly spoken out against the Matt Damon-led film for its casting decisions.

For instance, back in January, Musk declared that “Chris Nolan [had] lost his integrity” in response to a post that called his upcoming film “an insult to the author” because of Lupita Nyong’o’s casting as Helen of Troy in the adaptation.

Then, in May, Musk took aim at Nolan’s “The Odyssey” once more, this time co-signing right-wing fueled ire over the confirmation of Nyong’o’s casting. Specifically, after conservative commentator Matt Walsh suggested that Christopher Nolan only gave Nyong’o the part to avoid being called “racist,” Musk simply responded with the word “True.”

After another user made a transphobic joke at the expense of trans actor Elliot Page, who was rumored at the time to be Achilles in ‘The Odyssey” – he actually played Sinon – Musk applauded the post as a “banger.”

Despite the outrage from Musk and other ring-wing figures, Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey” has launched as a smashing success, bringing in $264 million global in its opening weekend. The film, which also stars Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton and Zendaya, has also earned critical and audience acclaim.

TheWrap’s William Bibbiani even touted the film as Nolan’s “best,” writing, “Homer’s ‘The Odyssey‘ may have been written almost 3,000 years ago, but in Nolan’s hands, it’s the spiritual sequel to the invention of the atomic bomb. Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, doesn’t just fall into a series of misadventures as he returns home after sacking Troy. He endures a series of metaphysical nightmares that reflect his guilt, shame and hubris back at him. It’s not an epic sword-and-sandal action movie, it’s a mournful horror story on a scale Hollywood has never seen before. ‘Oppenheimer’ may be Nolan’s defining movie, but ‘The Odyssey’ is his best.”

Comic-Con 2026 Hall H Preview

Can superhero projects still generate excitement in the wake of Supergirl‘s low-altitude box office? This year’s standout Comic-Con panels will aim to prove just that. Marvel is guaranteed to make noise after taking a year off, but there are plenty of other buzzy Hall H presentations on tap.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (1 p.m. July 23)

Interest is high given that the film suffered a hack in the spring. The team will bring sneak peeks to the panel for the animated feature that continues the story from the series of the same name. The movie premieres at Ballroom 20 the following evening ahead of its July 25 launch on Paramount+.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (2:15 p.m. July 23)

Kevin Sussman, who reprises his titular role that he originated on The Big Bang Theory, takes the stage with the rest of the HBO Max comedy’s cast, alongside the spinoff’s creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (10 a.m. July 24)

The Con returns to Middle-earth with early footage from the Prime Video series’ third season. Also part of the panel is Blade Runner 2099, the new series starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.

Lanterns (1:30 p.m. July 24)

Stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre headline the panel for HBO Max’s Green Lantern series that kicks off next month. It marks the latest project in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios slate after Supergirl‘s lackluster box office performance.

Spaceballs: The New One (4 p.m. July 24)

The Schwartz is with this sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 cult classic as the cast and filmmakers convene for the Amazon MGM comedy that lands in theaters next spring.

Pan’s Labyrinth (5:15 p.m. July 24)

After hitting the stage with George Lucas at last year’s Con, Guillermo del Toro returns to Hall H to celebrate a milestone for his Oscar-winning 2006 fantasy epic about a girl navigating an enchanted world. Castmembers Doug Jones and Ivana Baquero join the festivities ahead of its rerelease in theaters in the fall.

Star Trek (12:30 p.m. July 25)

While the property is a Hall H staple, this year’s iteration is notable for beaming up an array of talent across multiple titles to celebrate Star Trek‘s 60th anniversary. The cast of Strange New Worlds teases its final season on Paramount+, while franchise legends including George Takei, Michael Dorn and Robert Picardo take the stage.

Marvel Studios (5:30 p.m. July 25)

Two years after rocking Hall H with Robert Downey Jr. revealing his MCU return as Doctor Doom, Kevin Feige is back to unveil new footage and plans. The newly released Avengers: Doomsday trailer fueled fan excitement for the film as its Dec. 18 release approaches.

‘Resident Evil’ Official Trailer: Zach Cregger Is Coming For You

UPDATED with new trailer: Ahead of a Comic-Con Hall H appearance today by Zach Cregger, Sony has dropped a new trailer for Resident Evil, the Weapons helmer’s take on the iconic video game and the six-film franchise that started back in 2002.

This comes as the new movie, from Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, preps for its September 18 release in theaters.

The new pic follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier headed for a drop-off at Raccoon City General hospital who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos. Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser also star.

Cregger co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten.

PREVIOUSLY, April 30: Sony has dropped the first teaser trailer for their Resident Evil film from Weapons and Barbarian helmer Zach Cregger that was previewed in room only at CinemaCon earlier this month.

Here it is:

The trailer finds star Austin Abrams trudging through a snowy night and up to a dark, empty house. He had a problem on the road, he says, and wants to use the phone. Calling his girlfriend from inside, he says, “Some things have happened,” he’s in “a seriously f*cked-up situation,” and “we might not get to talk to each other again.”

We later hear the screech of creatures and a view at one large one who resembles Stellan Skarsgård’s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, along with shots of bloodied zombies, an overturned vehicle, bodies falling and exploding bloodily in the snowy street, and more.

Abrams’ character is Bryan, a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in a nonstop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos. The film marks the latest big-screen adaptation of Resident Evil, the popular horror video game series from Capcom, which has translated into one of the highest-grossing video game-based movie franchises ever.

In his appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Cregger said the film is “a big, scary ride” he hoped would be “true to the spirit of the games.”

In comparison to his past films, he said, his take on Resident Evil will have “no narrative acrobatics, time jumps or disorienting chapter things.” Rather, viewers will be “locked in with a protagonist on a foot journey through a world hell-bent on destroying them.”

Launched in 1996, the Resident Evil video game franchise centers on the outbreak of a deadly virus tied to the shadowy Umbrella Corporation.

Milla Jovovich led the original six-film series, which launched in 2002 and led to more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office grosses. More recently, Sony returned to the world of Resident Evil with the Johannes Roberts-helmed 2021 reboot Welcome to Raccoon City.

Coming off of Weapons — a critical and commercial smash for Warner Bros. that earned Amy Madigan an Oscar and grossed over $269M worldwide — Cregger directed the new Resident Evil from a script written with Shay Hatten. Constantin Film produced the pic and co-financed. The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser. Producers included Robert Kulzer, Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan and Asad Qizilbash. Executive producers are Oliver Berben, Victor Hadida, Richard Wright and Robert Bernacchi.

Critics Choice Association Inaugural Critics Choice Creator Awards

On the heels of groups like the Golden Globes adding Podcasts to their growing list of annual honors traditionally only focused on movies and tv shows, the Critics Choice Association has decided to add a whole new awards show dedicated to the ever-increasing visibility of “creators” in the digital world.

The Critics Choice Creator Awards will launch in April 2027 and recognize the best in podcasts, scripted and unscripted series, documentary and informational shows, lifestyle content, game shows and sports series.

With the uber success of You Tube creators like Kane Parsons whose Backrooms has now taken the movie world by storm, plus Emmy nominated shows like Subway Takes, there is a vast wilderness out there in the digital world to discover, and as Hollywood loves to do, give awards as other shows like the Webbys and Streamys have already been dedicated to doing. In this case it will be a widely recognized group of some 500+ critics voting on categories that include Best Creator of the Year, Best Podcast Host, Best Audio Podcast, Best Video Podcast, Best Comedy Creator, Best Drama Creator, Best Comedy Series, Best Micro-Drama Series, Best Business Series, Best Health/Wellness Creator, Best Relationship Series Creator and many more. An initial list of planned categories can be found below.

Submitted work must have been made publicly available online to its intended audience at any time between January 1 and December 31, 2026.

Submissions will be accepted from Monday, October 19, 2026 through Monday, February 1, 2027. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, March 18, 2027, and winners will be revealed on Thursday, April 15, 2027.

“As the world of entertainment evolves and migrates onto social media and streaming platforms, it is the job of entertainment critics to move with them,” said CCA CEO Joey Berlin. “We are dedicated to helping entertainment consumers ‘find the good stuff’ as well as helping the best creators get found – and appreciated. To continue our mission of serving audiences and the creative community, we are proud to launch the Critics Choice Creator Awards.”

The Critics Choice Creator Awards joins CCA’s growing slate of programming which already includes the Critics Choice Awards, Critics Choice Documentary Awards, Critics Choice Real TV Awards, and Critics Choice Super Awards. The CCA also produces a series of Celebration events to recognize historically underrepresented communities, including the Celebration of Black Cinema and Television, Celebración of Cinema and Television, Celebration of AAPI Cinema and Television, and Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema and Television.
