Huddersfield Giants: Super League strugglers announce free entry for Catalans Dragons match

Published

on

Super League strugglers Huddersfield Giants have announced entry for their match against Catalans Dragons next month will be free.

In a statement, the Giants said they will use the fixture at the Accu Stadium on Saturday, 8 August to reveal where they plan to play home games in 2027.

The West Yorkshire side are leaving the ground, which they have shared with League One football club Huddersfield Town since it opened in 1994, at the end of the season.

Owner Ken Davy pulled out of a bid to buy The Shay stadium in Halifax last month and subsequently resigned as chairman earlier in July.

On the field, the bottom-of-the-table side are on a run of 12 successive Super League losses and have won just two of their 19 matches this year.

Huddersfield Town took sole ownership of the ground in September last year and the Giants’ hopes of moving to a new purpose-built ground in the area hit a stumbling block in June after the council said its preferred site was not earmarked for sports development.

“Despite extensive talks with the local authority, all avenues for an easily developable site within the town perimeter have been exhausted within the necessary timeframe,” chairman Ralph Rimmer told the club website., external

“However, the vision for the Giants remains the same: a consistently dominant Super League force, both on and off the field producing sell-out crowds in its own venue.”

Alejandro Garnacho: Aston Villa agree loan deal for Chelsea winger

Published

on

Aston Villa have agreed a loan deal for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho until the end of the 2026-27 season, with an obligation to buy.

The 22-year-old has already completed a medical in Birmingham and has pre-agreed a four-year contract at Villa Park if the loan deal becomes permanent.

The terms of the obligation to buy clause has not been disclosed by either club, but it is expected to be triggered if certain conditions are met, such as the number of appearances the Argentina international makes next season.

Chelsea believe the terms are easily reachable and that they will achieve their original £43m valuation.

Garnacho’s departure from Stamford Bridge follows Chelsea’s signing of Morgan Rogers for a record £117m fee from Villa on Tuesday.

The winger becomes Villa’s fourth signing, after the arrivals of Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse.

Villa’s player sales this summer, meanwhile, total nearly £200m, with Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin all leaving.

The Blues have been keen to offload Garnacho despite signing him only last September in a £40m deal from Manchester United, who would be due 10% of any eventual transfer fee.

His impact at Stamford Bridge has been limited to one Premier League goal, and the arrival of Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda have increased the need to reduce the size of the squad.
