St. Louis City to sign Carlo Holse as designated player after $6M transfer: Sources

St. Louis City has reached an agreement to sign Danish attacker Carlo Holse from Samsunspor, sources briefed on the deal tell The Athletic.

The clubs are in agreement on a fee worth around $6 million, sources add. Holse will be a designated player when the deal is completed.

Holse, 27, had eight goals and four assists in the Turkish Süper Lig last season. He has been with Samsunspor since 2023 and has been a key contributor since, with at least eight goal contributions each season.

The attacker was a key figure for the club’s run to the UEFA Conference League round of 16, with two goals and five assists in 10 appearances in the competition.

Before moving to Turkey, Holse starred for Norwegian side Rosenborg. His career began with FC Copenhagen in Denmark.

Holse represents a significant addition for St. Louis, which now has another marquee attacker alongside Marcel Hartel. The team is being rebuilt under new leadership and head coach Yoann Damet.

The roster needed to be overturned to fit Damet’s possession-based ethos, and plenty of work has been done to reshape the group. The club was targeting a DP this summer, and Holse, who has one cap for Denmark’s national team (as a substitute for San Diego FC DP Anders Dreyer in June 2025 vs. Lithuania), is the guy.

Holse can play alongside Hartel in the team’s dual No. 10 slots in Damet’s preferred 3-4-2-1. He can be a primary creator — he had 16 assists in one league season for Rosenborg — or take on some of the goal-scoring burden as well. St. Louis, could use the attacking boost, as only five clubs have scored fewer than its 19 goals so far this season.

St. Louis sits 10th place in the West, just one point behind the LA Galaxy for the final playoff spot with 19 games remaining.

Liverpool Football Club issue bans as police seize £1.2m of assets from ticket touts

Published

on

Liverpool have issued over 400 lifetime bans after more than £1.2m of assets relating to the illegal selling of tickets was seized by police.

The club worked with Merseyside Police to seize the assets from organised ticket touts.

The police operation focused on the laundering of criminal proceeds from illicit ticket sales and took place alongside the club’s crackdown on ticket touting, both online and in the ground.

The club has since issued 432 lifetime bans to the guilty parties, as well as 115 indefinite suspensions.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield said: “This is a fantastic example of partnership working between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the general public.

“We will always take action to protect genuine fans who fall victim to touts when all they are trying to do is simply purchase tickets to support their team.”

From the assets seized, the money was split between Merseyside Police and the Home Office.

Last year, BBC Sport revealed Liverpool had shut down 145,000 ticket accounts over the previous two years as part of a crackdown on touting.

And last season alone, Liverpool analysed almost 700,000 ticket registrations, with 67,663 suspected fake accounts blocked or cancelled, and a further 121,379 accounts currently under investigation.

A further 3,847 tickets were cancelled for suspicious purchase activity in the 2025-26 season. They were put back on sale as general admission tickets, increasing the number available for genuine fans.

There was also a significant increase in targeted stops carried out on matchdays by the club, who prevented access to the turnstiles for accounts with suspicious activity.

These stops were carried out at Anfield – an average of 300 per home game – and at away games both in the Premier League and in Europe.
