Arsenal have signed “extremely versatile attacking player” Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m.

The 24-year-old Greece international has joined the Premier League champions on what they describe as a “long-term contract”.

Tzolis scored 43 goals and provided 45 assists in 108 appearances for Club Brugge.

He joins Arsenal after the departure of Belgium forward Leandro Trossard to Besiktas earlier this month

“Christos naturally operates on the left but is comfortable across the front line,” said Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta.

“He’s an excellent finisher with both feet, thrives in tight spaces, and possesses incredible technical ability.

“Christos has produced outstanding numbers in terms of goals and assists over the last three seasons, and he’s a player who will raise the technical level of our squad, while bringing positive energy, enthusiasm, and a strong mentality to our team.”

Tzolis, who started his career at PAOK, made 30 appearances for Norwich between 2021 and 2024, scoring three goals.

During his time at the club he had spells on loan at Twente and Fortuna Dusseldorf before joining Club Brugge.

Tzolis, who made his Premier League debut for the Canaries in a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in September 2021, said he had a “nice conversation” with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

“We talked about everything – about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team,” he said. “It was only positive things.

“I’m a direct player, I go for goals or assists. That’s my point of view as an attacker, as a winger.

“I’m always hungry to score or to give the final pass to my team-mates. And I can say I work hard for the team, also in the defensive part.”

When you include Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Xabi Alonso, four of the coaches of the teams that finished in the top 10 of the Premier League last season all hail from the Basque region.

“They ask me a lot why a lot of Basque managers especially have arrived to this level and why a lot of Spanish teams are winning a lot of things,” Iraola said.

“I always say that a sense of collectiveness is very important. Spain has never had the best athletes. If you analyse, in swimming, track and field, they don’t normally win medals.

“But in collective sports they are very good. In football, basketball, handball, hockey, normally they have good teams. We always put the team first.

“An example is someone like Rodri. He didn’t score or make an assist but at the end they won the World Cup and he won best player of the tournament. Team-first was always integrated in how we’re raised.

“There are a lot of different styles in Spanish coaching. With the national team, they always say tiki-taka, passing, but even in the World Cup you could see them pressing very well, pressing high.

“Yes, they controlled the game with the ball, but it’s the other part without the ball where everyone was doing their job. It’s being pro-active without the ball.”

The Norwegian Football Federation is considering filing a formal complaint to Fifa’s ethics committee about the decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s automatic one-match ban during the World Cup.

United States forward Balogun was expected to miss his side’s last-16 tie against Belgium after being shown a straight red card during their 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

But, after an intervention from US President Donald Trump, the one-match ban was suspended for 12 months. No reason was given, beyond citing a rule that allows punishments to be suspended.

Balogun started the match, which Belgium won 4-1.

In a statement provided to the BBC, NFF president Lise Klaveness said the federation had reacted with “strong concern” and a decision on whether or not to make a complaint would be made at its next board meeting.

The federation has already filed a complaint about Fifa’s first Peace Prize being awarded to President Trump.

“It is appropriate to include the Balogun case in the inquiry to Fifa’s ethics committee that we made before the World Cup regarding Fifa’s so-called peace prize award during the draw in Washington before Christmas last year,” Klaveness said.

The statement followed reports the International Olympic Committee (IOC) could also investigate Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Infantino has been an IOC member since 2020.

Section two of the Olympic charter states: “Members of the IOC will not accept from governments, organisations, or other parties, any mandate or instructions liable to interfere with the freedom of their action and vote.”

In response to a BBC request, the IOC issued a statement saying: “Complaints to the IOC ethics commission are confidential. The IOC will therefore not make any public announcement about whether a complaint has been submitted or not by an external party. The IOC will only communicate sanctions should the ethics commission decide to impose some.”
