Manchester United defender Gabby George is closing in on a move to Brighton before the start of the Women’s Super League season.

The 29-year-old has a year remaining on her contract after United activated an option clause in January.

It means Brighton are expected to pay a six-figure fee for the versatile defender, who joined United in 2023.

It is understood that George is seeking regular game time, and she would be a valuable addition to Brighton’s ambitious squad.

During her three-year United stay, George has made more than 50 appearances and was part of the squad who won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024.

George graduated from Everton’s academy and played over 100 games for them before her move to United.

She has three caps for England and brings experience to a Brighton squad who are strengthening yet again this summer.

Dario Vidosic’s side have already added Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby, among others.

Brighton finished seventh in the WSL last season and open this year’s campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September (12:00 BST).

United confirmed on Monday that manager Marc Skinner had left his role by mutual consent and they are currently looking at candidates to replace him.

Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes says he and his team-mates have a “chip on their shoulder” that he believes will help them win the Championship this season.

Saints were removed from last term’s play-offs following the Spygate scandal, with the process still playing out just weeks before the start of the upcoming campaign.

After head coach Tonda Eckert was last week charged by the Football Association, the club still await a verdict on how he will be punished for “bringing the game into disrepute” through his role in spying on rival clubs.

However, Downes – one of Saints’ key players since joining initially on loan from West Ham in 2023 and then permanently the following summer – says the club are coming into the new campaign with a point to prove on the pitch.

And the 27-year-old is backing them to win the league despite beginning the season with a four-point deduction due to the spying saga.

“The club, players and staff have really come together,” Downes told BBC Radio Solent.

“It’s as if we have a chip on our shoulder and we want to put those wrongs right, we’re going [into the season] to win the league this year.

“I know we’re starting on minus four points but our mindset is that we’re winning this league and that’s it.

“We had the chance last year but didn’t get to [achieve it] for whatever reason but we’re looking strong so far.”

In May, reports suggested ‘high-roller’ guests would need to spend $1.5m (£1.1m) for special access, and while UFC sources confirmed to BBC Sport the existence of such packages for the event, they did not confirm how much they cost.

Trump has a long-standing friendship with UFC president Dana White and the event coincided with his 80th birthday.

Andrew Schleimer, chief financial officer of TKO Group, told investors on Monday they incurred significantly higher than normal costs for Freedom 250, which they “partially offset with sold-out global partnerships inventory.”

He added: “Given the event’s profile, which as anticipated, resulted in an approximate $30m loss, our margins at UFC as well as on a consolidated basis were meaningfully impacted.”

Last year, TKO Group signed a $7.7bn (£5.7bn), seven-year contract with Paramount for the US channel to become the new home of UFC starting in 2026, with the White House event shown exclusively on its subscription streaming platform Paramount+.

The event attracted an average of 34 million viewers worldwide, making it one of the most watched mixed martial arts events of all time.

TKO reported UFC’s revenue increased 29% year over year to $535.7m (£398.66m) for the second quarter of this year.

This includes a $64.7m (£48.15m) increase in media rights driven by the TV deal with Paramount.
