Mark Zuckerberg Says AI Will Shrink Companies — but Won’t Kill Jobs

As Hollywood and the media industry grapple with artificial intelligence’s potential impact on jobs, Mark Zuckerberg says companies may need fewer workers — but he rejects the idea that AI will lead to mass unemployment.

The Meta CEO laid out his case Monday in “The Future Is for Everyone,” a sweeping manifesto outlining his vision for artificial intelligence and what he calls “personal superintelligence.”

“Company sizes may shrink — just as they did in the transition from industrial giants to tech companies,” Zuckerberg wrote. “But this doesn’t mean fewer jobs overall.”

Instead, the billionaire envisions an economy with more companies employing fewer people, predicting that small groups equipped with AI agents could eventually operate businesses at significant scale. That vision has particular implications for entertainment and media, where the growing use of AI has fueled questions about the future of creative work. AI protections became a major issue during Hollywood’s 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, and the technology has continued to spread across content creation and other parts of the media business.

Zuckerberg also acknowledged that workers will have to adapt as AI changes existing jobs. However, he argued that the technology could generate entirely new professions and businesses faster than automation eliminates existing ones.

Some of his examples touch directly on creative work. Zuckerberg imagined “world builders and experience designers” creating games, stories and adventures, and pointed to social media creators and app developers as jobs that largely didn’t exist a generation ago.

He also rejected some of the more dire predictions about where AI is headed. “It is surprising that the discourse from many developing AI is so filled with doom,” Zuckerberg wrote.

Rather than primarily automating existing work, Zuckerberg argued that AI should expand what individuals can invent and create. “The more superintelligence serves as a tool of invention,” he noted, “the more likely that individual capability outpaces automation and the future is better for people.”

‘Big Brother’ Promises Biggest Twist of the Summer for 1,000th Episode Special

When “Big Brother” premiered back in July of 2000, CBS probably didn’t expect for the reality competition show to become the first primetime series to hit 1,000 episodes — but you know what Julie Chen Moonves says about the unexpected.

Season 28 is set to celebrate this monumental milestone on Thursday, Aug. 27, with the network promising a live eviction that will also introduce the biggest twist of the summer, a 26-year retrospective and “surprise appearances from former Houseguests determined by interactive fan votes.”

“We are thrilled and honored to be celebrating this unprecedented milestone,” executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan said in a Monday statement. “It would not have been possible without all of the hardworking and talented people behind the scenes who make up our ‘Big Brother’ family. This achievement belongs to them, the hundreds of brave houseguests who have walked through the front door, our iconic host, Julie Chen Moonves, and, of course, our passionate fans.”

“Never did I ever expect the unexpected,” Chen Moonves agreed. “When we launched Season One, there were rumors we could get canceled midseason because we didn’t have the same ratings as ‘Survivor.’ And now look at us, Ma! Two former ‘Survivor’ players are currently on our show, including a former winner, Dee.”

“Although the past 28 seasons feel like the blink of an eye, it doesn’t look that way when you see all the fashion trends and hairstyles I’ve worn through the decades. That’s the dead giveaway for how long we’ve been around! I am humbled and grateful for this momentous occasion,” she continued. “May God allow ‘Big Brother’ to continue for at least another 1,000 original episodes, with more Zings, new Houseguests and countless HOH competitions still to come!”

But first, the 13 remaining Houseguests still have to survive an eviction or two — with no word on any double (or triple) evictions just yet. It’s worth noting the end of the BB Time Capsule should coincide with whatever this new twist brings.

“Big Brother” is produced by Fly on the Wall Entertainment in association with Endemol Shine North America, with Grodner, Meehan and Chris Roach as EPs. New episodes air Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, along with more “Big Brother: Unlocked” planned for Aug. 23, Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. Damon Wayans To Guest Star On NBC’s ‘St. Denis Medical’; First Photo

There will be an In Living Color reunion on the set of NBC‘s St. Denis Medical. Damon Wayans (My Wife and Kids, Lethal Weapon) will reunite with his former In Living Color castmate David Alan Grier in a guest-starring role on the Season 3 premiere.

Wayans will play Dr. Highland, a charming but pompous new doctor at St. Denis. He is filling in while Ron (Grier) is recovering from surgery. All the patients and staff (besides Alex) have fallen head over heels for him and his insights. Check out a first-look photo above.

Created by Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin, St. Denis Medical spotlights an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

In Season 2, after receiving a large private donation, hospital administrator Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey) bites off more than she can chew while her employees navigate staff shortages, office conflicts and their own personal lives.

Season 3 picks up with romantic entanglements and personal struggles complicating relationships in the Emergency Department, pushing some St. Denis employees to the brink.

The ensemble cast also includes Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper and Kaliko Kauahi.

Ledgin serves as showrunner and executive producer. Spitzer, Simon Heuer, Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu also executive produce. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio. Series is produced by More Bees, Inc. and Spitzer Holding Company.

Season 3 of St. Denis Medical premieres on Monday, November 2 at 8 p.m. on NBC. Seasons one and two are available to stream on Peacock.

Chris Evans Teases Brutal Captain America Arc in Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans is warning fans of the tough road ahead for Captain America in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

While talking at Fan Expo Boston this weekend, Evans warned of the “brutal” arc Cap is facing in the upcoming Marvel movie. He also looked back on how the Russo Brothers – who are again handling directing duties on the Avengers film – love to beat the ever-loving crap out of the character as part of showing the character’s heroics.

“The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers. Their favorite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him,” Evans said. “To them, that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up.”

During the actor’s Q&A panel at the convention, Evans also looked back on the extreme lengths the production went through to keep the fact that he was a part of the film under wraps. The entire script, the PAs talking on set and everything in between all referred to him as a completely different Marvel character.

“Within the script, my character was called Luke Cage just in case things leaked,” Evans added “On the call sheets, I was called Luke Cage. Even on set, they’d say, ‘Luke Cage is traveling.’ It was such a locked-down thing.”

The upcoming Avengers film marks Evans’ return to the MCU as Steve Rogers. The character was last seen in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” returning the Infinity Stones to their proper places in time and choosing to stay back in his original time period to be with the love of his life Peggy Carter. Back in 2024, Evans briefly returned to the MCU in “Deadpool and Wolverine” reprising his role as Johnny Storm from Fox’s Fantastic Four movies from the early 2000s.

“Avengers: Doomsday” lands in theaters on Dec. 18.
