Lucas Gourna-Douath is undergoing a medical at Hull City ahead of a proposed transfer from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.

The two sides have reached an agreement on a €4million (£3.4m) transfer fee, with personal terms also in place with the 23-year-old to sign a five-year contract.

Gourna-Douath spent the second half of last season on loan with Le Havre in his native France, making 15 Ligue 1 appearances as the side finished 14th in the table.

The 23-year-old came through the academy of Saint-Etienne before moving to Salzburg as an 18-year-old in 2022, signing a five-year contract with the Austrian club.

He was utilised frequently in a defensive midfield position in his first two seasons, helping Salzburg win their 17th Austrian Bundesliga title in 2022-23, though he fell down the pecking order and subsequently joined Roma on loan in February 2025 with an option to make the move permanent, which was not exercised.

Hull, who achieved promotion to the Premier League as Championship play-off winners in May, have been active in the transfer market, already bringing in seven players, including the arrival of goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis in a club-record deal from Olympiacos, Jack Butland from Rangers and Matt Targett as a free agent.
