Arsenal informed that Gabriel Martinelli has no interest in Galatasaray move

Arsenal have been informed by Gabriel Martinelli’s camp that the winger has no interest in joining Galatasaray.

The Athletic reported on Wednesday Arsenal had received a €45million (£38.4m; $51.8m) offer from Galatasaray for Martinelli.

The Brazil international’s Arsenal contract runs until 2027, with the club having an option to extend through to 2028.

Arsenal are open to trading Martinelli, 25, if an attractive offer arrives, but he is not pushing to leave the club.

Mikel Arteta’s side have signed winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge this summer, while fellow wide forward Leonardo Trossard departed to join Besiktas. The north London club also registered an interest in Vinicius Junior this summer, before the Brazil international signed a new long-term contract with Real Madrid.

Arsenal entered the summer window knowing player trading would have to be part of their approach. Trossard was sold to Besiktas for €20m (£17.1m, $22.9m), while midfielder  Christian Norgaard joined Everton for £7m ($9.4m), but there is an acceptance that more departures will be necessary before the window closes.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019 and has made 278 first-team appearances, scoring 62 goals.

He made 53 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists, as Arsenal won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.

Arsenal have been open to refreshing their options on the left flank for some time. They have already replaced Leandro Trossard with 24-year-old Christos Tzolis, and are open to trading Martinelli too. The Brazilian has one year (plus an optional further year) remaining on his contract, and thus far there have been no talks about a potential extension.

Arsenal have already explored potential deals for Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior — either arrival would have significantly impacted Martinelli’s place in the pecking order.

The club are also keen to improve football revenue by making significant sales in this window. Martinelli represents a good opportunity to do that — but the player is not pushing to leave, and as such is only prepared to agree to a move that meets his sporting ambitions.
