Mohamed Salah made his debut for Turkish club Trabzonspor as a substitute in a 1-1 away draw against Kasimpasa on Saturday.
The former Liverpool forward came on — to a loud chorus of jeers — as a 58th-minute substitute in Istanbul, replacing Metehan Mimaroglu, shortly after Adrian Benedyczak equalised for the home side from the penalty spot.
Salah signed a two-year contract with the Turkish club this summer after departing Liverpool. He spent nine successful years on Merseyside, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019, before a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his Anfield contract one year early.
Just a minute after his entrance on Saturday, Salah took on Kasimpasa’s Jakob Jessen and Matei Ilie with a marauding run down the right wing, before cutting onto his left foot and delivering a cross onto the head of former Southampton forward Paul Onuachu, who could not divert a meaningful effort towards goal.
He also delivered a dangerous wide free-kick, which was headed towards goal but saved by Andreas Gianniotis, and flashed a back-post volley across the face of goal.
However, the scoreline remained unchanged as Trabzonspor began their 2026-27 Super Lig season with a draw.
Noah Saviolo had opened the scoring shortly before half-time for Trabzonspor, in a starting line-up which featured Manchester United loanee goalkeeper Andre Onana and former Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic.
Sidny Lopes Cabral, whose strike for Cape Verde against Argentina in the World Cup last 32 was awarded goal of the tournament, also came off the bench for Trabzonspor.
Salah could feature in the Europa League this season, as Trabzonspor face Hungarian side Ferencvaros over two legs in the final stage of qualifying for the competition.
The home leg takes place on Thursday, before the reverse fixture a week later on August 27 — a day before the league phase draw takes place.
