September 9 Dubbed ‘Attack on Titan Day’ – Interest

The Attack on Titan franchise announced on Wednesday that the private Japan Anniversary Association had dubbed September 9 as “Attack on Titan Day.” The staff said the unofficial holiday celebrates the manga series’ first publication date in Kodansha‘s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on September 9, 2009. The announcement’s key visual features the Nine Titans (Founding, Colossal, Attack, Armored, Female, Beast, Jaw, Cart, and War Hammer) in the silhouette of “9/9”:

That day, the human race remembers
the boy who dreamed beyond the walls
and those who fought on in pursuit of freedom.
Just as the Nine Titans were inherited through the generations,
this story has lived on in the hearts of our readers.

Accompanying the Japan Anniversary Association’s certificate is a wood carving of a Titan with a fish in its mouth, inspired by the traditional Kibori kuma art of bears carved out of wood.

Cast members Yūki Kaji (Eren Jaeger), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman), and Hiro Shimono (Conny Springer) will appear on an “Attack on Titan Day” anniversary livestream at 9:30 p.m. Japan Time (8:30 a.m. EDT).
