Singapore Grand Prix: Max Verstappen beats Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to pole

Published

on

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took his second pole position in a week by beating the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Verstappen’s first lap in final qualifying was enough to take pole, his time fending off a second lap from Leclerc that was 0.054 seconds off pole.

Hamilton was closest to Verstappen after the first runs but was unable to improve on his second run.

In fact, most of the front runners struggled to improve on their second runs, as Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli took fourth on the grid, from McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Antonelli’s team-mate George Russell was sixth fastest but will drop to the back of the grid with a penalty for using too many engine parts.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was the only driver in the top four teams other than Leclerc to improve on his second run but could do no better than qualify seventh.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10.

The Prem: Northampton 71-48 Bath: Saints score 11 tries to beat Bath in try-fest

Published

Green doubled his tally quickly after the restart, but Saints full-back James Pater pounced on Santiago Carreras’ dropped ball to steal possession and sprint the distance to the line.

Carreras made amends with a try of his own although Northampton started turning the screw despite Bath unloading their bench of big-hitters.

Josh Kemeny scored in the corner, Alex Mitchell followed – collecting his own grubber kick in a solo showpiece – and Sleightholme capped a superb move that saw Saints turn the ball over by their own line and sweep up the field.

Sleightholme completed his hat-trick four minutes later and while Bayliss kept Bath in touch to close the gap to 57-48, it did not last as Saints had more in the tank.

Alex Coles barged over before Freeman rounded off a blockbuster day in the closing stages.
