CloverWorks’ Anime Film Grotesqqque Adds Mika Ichinose Song “TERASE” Ahead of November 6 Premiere

CloverWorks’ ambitious anime film Grotesqqque just added another musical highlight ahead of its Japanese debut. The official website confirmed that the film will feature the song “TERASE,” performed by singer Mika Ichinose, who contributes to the “A(E)liens” story. Singer-songwriter Ken Kamikita wrote the lyrics, scored and arranged the track, which is now available across major music streaming services. A collaboration music video pairing the song with film footage is also streaming on the official site.

The film is the latest original project from director Atsushi Nishigori, best known for DARLING in the FRANXX and The IDOLM@STER. Nishigori is directing, writing the screenplay, and designing the characters himself, making this a deeply personal production. What sets Grotesqqque apart is its omnibus format: three separate stories, each with its own worldview, all bundled into a single theatrical experience.

Three Stories, 35 Musical Acts

The three segments are titled “Yoroshiku Girl,” “Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque,” and the A(E)liens story. “Yoroshiku Girl” (also rendered as “4649 Girl”) plays on the Japanese numbers 4-6-4-9, which can be read as “yoroshiku” — a pun that doubles as the film’s playful-yet-dark tone. “Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque” translates roughly to “Nocturne: On This Grotesque Night.”

Music is woven into the film’s DNA. A staggering 35 musical acts are contributing to the three stories, making Grotesqqque as much a music event as an animation showcase. The band METALVERSE performs the opening theme song “Shoot Shoot Shoot,” while artist Haoto handles the ending theme with lyrics by momosu momosu. The announcement of Ichinose’s “TERASE” adds another layer to the film’s eclectic soundtrack.

Production Team and Release Details

Grotesqqque comes from JOEN, the joint company established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and publisher Shueisha. CloverWorks producer Yuichi Fukushima and Wit Studio producer Tetsuya Nakatake serve as its representative directors.

The film will open in Japanese theaters on November 6. It already had its world premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal (July 16-August 2), and the Japan Society hosted the U.S. premiere in New York City on October 8, with director Nishigori giving an in-person introduction before the screening.
