Expelled from Paradise Sequel Film Trailer Reveals Theme Song “Beyond the Night”

Angela Balzac’s return is getting a soundtrack: the official website for Rakuen Tsuihō -Expelled from Paradise- Kokoro no Resonance (Heart’s Resonance) began streaming a new trailer on Tuesday, revealing and previewing the film’s theme song “Beyond the Night” by TeddyLoid feat. Ayane Sakura (as Gabriel) and Nagi Inoue of Nogizaka46.

Theme Song, Release Dates, and a New Game

The song itself is getting a full release rollout: “Beyond the Night” launches digitally on November 11 and physically on November 18. The film — the all-new feature-length sequel to the 2014 sci-fi anime — opens in Japan on November 13.

The franchise is expanding beyond the big screen, too. A new game, Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel- (Rakuen Tsuihō -The Stellar Angel-), featuring an original story, will launch on November 26 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

The film’s title has had its own journey: the project was first announced as Rakuen Tsuihō: Liberated from Paradise before later announcements settled on Rakuen Tsuihō -Expelled from Paradise- Kokoro no Resonance, also listed as Rakuen Tsuihō: Kokoro no Resonance.

The Original Team Returns

Rie Kugimiya reprises her role as Angela Balzac, and the sequel reunites the core staff of the original film: director Seiji Mizushima, scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus, character designer Masatsugu Saitō, and composer NARASAKI. Toei Animation is producing the animation, with mechanical designers Kanetake Ebikawa, Junya Ishigaki, and Takayuki Yanase handling the hardware.

The original Expelled from Paradise was a genuine sleeper hit. It debuted in just 13 theaters in Japan in November 2014 yet sold 110,000 tickets, and its Japanese Blu-ray and DVD release sold more than 70,000 copies. The film went on to win Best Animation of the Year at the 24th Japan Movie Critics Awards in May 2015. Aniplex of America brought it to 15 theaters across the United States in December 2014, then released it on Blu-ray Disc across North, Central, and South America in June 2015.

The franchise marked its 10th anniversary in style last year, returning to Japanese theaters in November 2024 in 4K resolution as Expelled from Paradise -Impelled by 10th Anniversary-. With a sequel film, a theme song from TeddyLoid, and a new game all landing within weeks of each other, November is shaping up to be a big month for Angela Balzac fans.
