Kevin Knight on Heels vs Babyfaces: ‘Nobody Got Into This Business to Be a Heel or Babyface’

Heel or babyface? Kevin Knight doesn’t care — and he thinks wrestlers who obsess over it are missing the point entirely. In a new interview with Bleacher Report, ‘The Jet’ offered a refreshingly blunt take on one of wrestling’s oldest debates.

‘Nobody Got Into This Business to Be a Heel or Babyface’

Knight, who has spent time on both sides of the moral divide during his current AEW run and is currently aligned with the Don Callis Family as a villain, said he doesn’t even like the terminology. “It’s all the same thing. I really don’t like the term heel or babyface because we all just have motives. We all want to win gold. Nobody got into this business to be a heel or a babyface. We all got into this business to win, and it’s all about how you go about doing that.”

He broke down both sides of the coin, arguing that playing the bad guy actually offers more creative freedom. “Babyface is cool. You’ve got the support of the fans, hopefully. But then when you’re a heel, you’ve got to do things your own way and by any means necessary,” he said, adding that the shortcuts — the belt shots, the cheap shots — are all for the same common goal: winning gold. “Being heel, you have more freedom to express yourself because we’re not looking for the approval of the audience.”

A Tag Title Shot at WrestleDream

Knight’s philosophy is about to be put to the test. He will team with Kyle Fletcher to challenge the Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at WrestleDream — and if his mindset is any indication, he’ll be reaching for those belts by any means necessary.
