DC Studios wants fans to know one thing: The Batman: Part II is not dead. Co-CEO and co-chairman Peter Safran addressed the film’s production stoppage in a new interview with IGN, confirming the pause is only temporary.

Filming had been underway in the UK until it was halted earlier this month so that director Matt Reeves could attend to a family matter. Warner Bros. confirmed at the time that Reeves has the full support of DC Studios and that the studio looks forward to continuing the journey soon.
Safran Shuts Down Replacement Talk
When pressed on whether there was any scenario in which Part II doesn’t start filming again, or whether filming would resume under Reeves’ direction or a replacement director, Safran kept his cards close. But his tone was confident, and he praised what the studio has already seen from the shoot.
What we’ve seen so far of the shoot looked absolutely fantastic, Safran said, calling Reeves a supremely talented filmmaker. It’s a strong vote of confidence that suggests the studio has no intention of changing course on the project’s creative leadership.
A Sequel Going In A New Direction
Star Robert Pattinson has said the sequel is going in another totally different direction than 2022’s The Batman, and set photos from Glasgow have fueled massive speculation. Rumors about the plot have been rampant, with everyone from the Court of Owls to Mister Freeze and Two-Face floated as possible villains.
Photos and videos from the set showed Batman’s updated Arkham-style batsuit, a chase sequence between Batman and the Gotham City Police, and the Batmobile looking battered after some dramatic barrel rolls. The footage promised a film with serious scale before cameras stopped rolling.
The show, in other words, must go on. And according to DC Studios, it will.
