MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday psychological thriller “The Perfect Lie” has dropped its first character stills of Ok Ja Yeon, revealing the actress in a no-nonsense detective role as the drama gears up for its October 30 premiere at 9:50 p.m. KST.
Helmed by “You and Everything Else” director Jo Young Min, “The Perfect Lie” revolves around a man and a woman who give completely opposite accounts of the same memory — and collide head-on in their search for the truth. Caught in the middle is Lee Hwa Young, a detective who refuses to take anyone’s word at face value.

Ok Ja Yeon Is the Detective Caught Between Two Liars
Ok Ja Yeon plays Lee Hwa Young, a lieutenant in the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division at Sangcheon Police Station. Rational, responsible, and fiercely principled, she is the one who must dig out the truth buried behind Min Joon Ho and Kang Ji Sun’s seemingly “perfect first date.”
The character is the story’s moral compass: through her eyes, viewers will be pulled into constantly questioning which of the two leads is lying. The production team says she doesn’t just support the story — she drives it forward and holds an important key to the plot.
The Stills Show a Detective With Zero Patience for Nonsense
In the newly released stills, Lee Hwa Young is laser-focused on her investigation, wearing minimal makeup with her hair pulled back tightly. Her composed, almost indifferent expression is betrayed by a piercing gaze — the look of someone determined to get to the heart of the case.
The production team praised Ok Ja Yeon’s performance, saying the actress “has brought her own distinctive touch to the principled Lee Hwa Young, further enhancing the drama” and asking fans to anticipate her work in the role.
Two Leads, Two Truths, One Memory
The drama stars Yoo Yeon Seok as Min Joon Ho, a man known for telling the truth, and Seo Hyun Jin as Kang Ji Sun, a woman who insists her version of events is the truth. When their memories of the same incident flatly contradict each other, a fierce battle over reality begins — with Detective Lee Hwa Young caught between them.
“The Perfect Lie” premieres October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC. With a director known for sharp human drama and a cast stacked with character actors, this is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing mystery thrillers of the fall season.
