MBC Responds to “I Live Alone” Scripting Exposé: “It Was Just a Filming Permission”

MBC is pushing back. The broadcaster has addressed the explosive exposé over its hit reality show “I Live Alone,” denying that a pre-submitted filming document for Jun Hyun Moo’s Kazakhstan trip amounted to a scripted broadcast.

The Allegations

On October 16, the Chosun Ilbo reported — based on materials obtained by the office of Rep. Kim Eun Hye of the ruling People Power Party — that the “I Live Alone” production team had submitted a detailed filming request to the airport on July 22, laying out Jun Hyun Moo’s Kazakhstan departure schedule and flight details.

The problem: those details closely matched scenes that aired on August 14, fueling suspicions that the show — which markets itself as unscripted reality — was working from a prior script.

MBC Draws a Line

MBC has drawn a clear line. According to Star Today, the network said the materials submitted to the Incheon International Airport Corporation were simply “documents submitted to obtain shooting permission” — official letters containing a shooting plan outlining the filming situation and expected routes for airport authorities.

“This is not a predetermined script for the actual broadcast,” MBC emphasized, adding that the plan was never shared with the cast, Jun Hyun Moo was not aware of its contents, and there was no prior directing.

The controversy is the latest blow to the show’s credibility, and it remains to be seen whether MBC’s explanation will be enough to quiet the manipulation allegations.
