A new sageuk epic is about to hit screens. The upcoming historical drama “Sword & Silence” has unveiled new stills featuring Lee Hyun Wook, Kim Kang Woo, and Park Sung Woong — and confirmed its premiere date: November 14 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
Directed by Kim Yeong Jo of “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” the drama dramatizes one of Korean history’s most pivotal chapters: how the small kingdom of Silla defeated the more powerful Goguryeo and Baekje, and even confronted China’s Tang dynasty, to unify the Three Kingdoms.
Three Men, One Kingdom
At the heart of “Sword & Silence” are three figures whose relationships will define the story. Lee Hyun Wook plays Kim Pom Min, the eldest son of Kim Chun Chu — the 29th ruler of Silla, King Taejong Muyeol. A perceptive man with sharp intellect and keen political insight, Kim Pom Min hones his bravery and leadership as a military commander, fighting alongside his maternal uncle Kim Yu Shin in battle after battle.
Kim Kang Woo takes on Kim Chun Chu himself, a grandson of the deposed King Jinji who must navigate fierce opposition from Silla’s Jingol aristocracy. Notably, father and son begin at odds: Kim Pom Min initially views his father’s pragmatic diplomacy as cowardly. But the two eventually converge on a shared goal — peace through the unification of the Three Kingdoms — setting Kim Pom Min on his path to leadership.
Blood, Politics and the Battlefield
Park Sung Woong stars as Kim Yu Shin, the general of Gaya lineage bound to Kim Chun Chu by both blood and trust — the king marries Kim Yu Shin’s younger sister, making them brothers-in-law. Their partnership is a perfect division of labor: Kim Chun Chu lays the groundwork with political acumen and diplomatic skill, while Kim Yu Shin crushes internal rebellions and fights on the battlefield to secure victory.
Despite the aristocracy’s resistance, the trio joins forces for the future of their kingdom — a alliance of politics, loyalty and the sword that reshaped the peninsula.
“Sword & Silence” premieres November 14 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
