Ilja Dragunov Reportedly Set For AEW Debut At WrestleDream Tonight

AEW may be hours away from unveiling its biggest signing in months. According to PWInsider, former WWE star Ilja Dragunov is expected to make his AEW debut at WrestleDream 2026 tonight in Orlando — ending weeks of speculation and cryptic teases on television.

The report, which surfaced on October 17 just hours before the pay-per-view, states: “Former WWE star Ilja Dragunov is expected to debut at AEW WrestleDream tonight after several vignettes teasing him aired on AEW programming.”

The Orchestra Vignette

AEW began teasing Dragunov’s arrival with a cryptic 22-second vignette that aired during the three-hour Dynamite and Collision special on October 14. The clip featured a well-dressed man conducting an orchestra, a metronome resting on a wrestling mat, and shots of someone running around a ring — imagery that immediately had fans buzzing.

It didn’t take long for the identity behind the tease to surface. Fightful Select confirmed the vignette was designed for Dragunov, reporting that the former WWE star had already signed with AEW while the company worked through his visa situation.

In The Works For Months

Dragunov’s move to AEW has reportedly been in development for some time. As far back as September 26, it was reported that even top AEW stars didn’t know exactly when he would show up — despite the company already having debut materials prepared.

The holdup appeared to be paperwork rather than money or creative. Dragunov became a free agent in August after his WWE contract expired and he chose not to renew, and clearing his visa was one of the last hurdles AEW needed to clear.

Now the mystery is no longer whether Dragunov is AEW-bound, but exactly how the company plans to introduce him. With his debut reportedly set for WrestleDream, AEW could unveil his first storyline before the night is over — and inserting him into a pay-per-view of this scale suggests big things are in store.

WrestleDream 2026 goes down tonight at the Addition Financial Arena, streaming at 8 PM ET on HBO Max. If the report holds, tonight’s show will be remembered as the night Ilja Dragunov officially arrived in AEW.
