David Otunga Flips on Montez Ford Lawsuit After New Footage: ‘Substantially Stronger Battery Case’

Former WWE star and attorney David Otunga has completely changed his legal read on the lawsuit against Montez Ford after watching a new camera angle — and he says it now favors the accuser, Noel Lucas.

In a new video uploaded October 19, Otunga walked back his original analysis, in which he had leaned toward Ford and WWE’s side because the available footage didn’t clearly show the contact Lucas alleged.

What the New Angle Shows

Otunga said the new footage shows what appears to be Ford’s inner left thigh repeatedly rubbing against Lucas’s right leg — contact he couldn’t make out in the original video. Back in his first breakdown, he had said that another angle showing deliberate, repeated contact could completely change his analysis. Now, he says, that condition has been met.

The repetition is the key problem for Ford’s defense, in Otunga’s view. One accidental brush is one thing, he explained — but repeated rubbing makes the ‘I was just dancing’ explanation much harder to accept. A jury, he noted, can infer intent from movements, positioning, and repeated contact.

The Legal Takeaway

Otunga stressed that Lucas doesn’t have to prove Ford wanted to hurt him — an accidental brush doesn’t become battery just because someone didn’t like it, but intent can be inferred from the evidence. He also said the new footage changed his view of Lucas’s claim under the Illinois Gender Violence Act.

The flip is significant coming from Otunga, who is both a practicing attorney and a former WWE performer — and who initially gave Ford the benefit of the doubt. Whether this new footage ever reaches a courtroom remains to be seen, but in the court of public analysis, Otunga’s reversal is a notable win for Lucas’s case.
