French Game Store Employee Goes Viral Defending His Shop During Riots — Calls It ‘Foolish’

A Micromania sales assistant in Nice, France has become an unlikely viral hero after standing his ground in front of his video game store during the wave of protests and looting sweeping the country.

Pierre, an employee at the branch, was captured on video and in photos trying to hold the doorway against rioters who harassed him. In one clip, he attempted to chase looters away but was kicked to the ground when he turned his back. The store was ultimately looted, and Pierre was struck in the face by projectiles.

“It Was Foolish”

Despite the outpouring of online admiration — with fans praising him for “aura farming” while defending his shop — Pierre himself is humble about the whole thing. “At one point, I just stood in front to keep people from getting inside — that’s all,” he told local outlet ICI. Looking back, he admitted: “It was foolish. But in the moment, that’s what I did.”

Keeping the Message in Focus

Pierre was careful not to let the violence overshadow the point of the protests. A cost-of-living crisis and worsening conditions in schools have fueled the demonstrations, with over 1,200 arrests reported during the unrest. “There are a few ‘bad apples,’ but they don’t represent the majority,” he said, noting that “throughout the rest of the march, things went quite well” — and that the protests reflect real issues working people across the world are dealing with.
