Yoo Jae Suk isn’t known for taking credit — unless it’s for a rising star he can’t stop bragging about. The National MC had the studio in stitches on a recent episode of MBC’s “Hangout with Yoo” when he jokingly claimed full responsibility for trending actor Lee Jun Young’s success, declaring: “I raised him.”

The moment came during the show’s ’95 Seoul Music Festival special, which held its second preliminaries alongside a meeting with holdouts from the first round. Yoo announced the prize money had been doubled from last year’s ’80s Seoul Music Festival to account for inflation since the 1990s — the grand prize now stands at ₩2.00 million KRW (about $1,500 USD), with gold, silver, and bronze awards set at ₩1.00 million, ₩700,000, and ₩500,000 respectively.
“I Made It Happen”
The bragging began when Haha expressed hope that “another new figure like Lee Jun Young comes out” of this year’s competition. Lee previously made waves by winning the grand prize jointly with Lee Juck at the ’80s Seoul Music Festival, delivering a passionate performance of Park Nam Jung’s “Missing You” that also earned him the popularity award.
Recalling the moment, Yoo proudly reminded everyone: “When we suggested to Jun Young to perform Park Nam Jung hyung’s song, he actually felt burdened. But didn’t he win the grand prize with that?” When Joo Woo Jae groaned, “He kept bragging about it,” Yoo doubled down with a grin: “I made it happen. I raised Jun Young” — sending the cast into laughter.
Military Update on the Rising Star
Yoo also shared a recent update on the actor, who is currently serving in the military: “Do you know how much Jun Young is dancing now that he’s in the military?” Joo Woo Jae added, “He’s not an introvert,” while Haha joked, “At this point, he should really come to greet us when he’s on leave. Didn’t I make things easier for him? He should come and say hello.”
Whether or not Yoo Jae Suk truly “raised” Lee Jun Young, one thing is clear — the National MC isn’t letting anyone forget his role in the rising star’s festival triumph anytime soon.
