Marc Summers, the beloved host of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, has revealed that WWE once tried to poach him — and the offer was so low he couldn’t take it seriously.

Speaking on tour while reflecting on his career, Summers was asked about his favorite episode of Double Dare. He pointed to “Super SlopAMania 1,” the February 1989 crossover special featuring Gorilla Monsoon vs. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan — back when wrestling couldn’t have been bigger.
“WWE wanted to hire me from Nickelodeon and put me on as announcer on their show, but they offered me zero money, so I wasn’t going to do it,” Summers said.
A Favorite Memory With Wrestling Legends
The Nickelodeon-WWF crossover clearly left a lasting impression. Summers recalled meeting Heenan when he was just 16, selling refreshments at Starlight Musicals in Indianapolis. “Nicest guy in the world. Heenan was great. Gorilla had two degrees. He was brilliant, fun, and funny. I don’t even have to think about it, that was my favorite episode,” he said.
It’s a wild what-if for wrestling history. Summers’ rapid-fire energy would have been a natural fit for the broadcast booth — but WWE’s famously tight purse strings struck out on this one. The Double Dare host stayed with Nickelodeon, and the rest is game-show history.
