Saracens owner Dominic Silvester has thrown his full support behind chief executive Ed Coetzee, rejecting claims of “executive-level chaos” at the Premiership club in an open letter published on the club’s website.

The statement was a direct response to an article in The Times last week, which claimed that the 2022 takeover — in which Silvester assumed control from former owner Nigel Wray in a £32m deal — had “triggered a period of executive-level chaos.” The piece pointed to Coetzee being Saracens’ third chief executive in two years and alleged high staff turnover that could put sponsors off.
Silvester Backs His Executive Team
Silvester, who has owned the club since 2022, wrote that “the board has full confidence in Ed and his team,” praising Coetzee for achieving an “extraordinary amount” since his appointment in July. He credited the CEO with bringing the all-female athletics meeting Athlos and a Gaelic football fixture between Mayo and Kerry to the club’s StoneX Stadium, alongside new commercial and hospitality partnerships.
Silvester also highlighted a beefed-up executive team, with Jason Thomas as chief financial officer and Rob Cook as chief operating officer. “Together, Ed, Jason and Rob bring significant experience, complementary expertise and a clear commitment to building a financially sustainable business,” he wrote.
Ambitious But Realistic
“We are ambitious about our future, realistic about the work required to achieve our goals and united in our commitment to taking Saracens forward,” Silvester concluded — a message aimed as much at restless sponsors and supporters as at the newspaper’s claims.
