The short-format anime adaptation of Yuka Ōshima’s Haru to Gen ~70-sai, Hajimete Kosodate~ (Haru and Gen: Raising a Child for the First Time at 70) has unveiled a brand-new teaser video, and it comes with some big news. The teaser officially revealed the anime’s main cast and confirmed that the series will premiere on January 4, 2027, airing on TV Kanagawa (tvk) at 9:55 p.m. JST.

Who’s Playing Who in Haru to Gen
The teaser introduced two of the story’s central figures. Veteran voice actor Bin Shimada will play Gen, the divorced 70-year-old man living alone who is suddenly handed the responsibility of raising his young granddaughter. Meanwhile, Mayuko Kazama has been cast as Sakura, Gen’s only daughter, who passed away from an illness before the story begins.
The heart of the story is as emotional as it is relatable. Gen spent most of his life neglecting his family, growing estranged from his wife and daughter after a divorce many years ago. When his daughter dies, he is left to care for her three-year-old daughter, Haru. Now, at 70, Gen is raising a child for the very first time — and learning just how much he missed along the way.
Staff Behind the Short Anime
The anime is being directed by Kōdai Satō at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio in collaboration with Studio Nanahoshi. Taeko Miura is handling sound direction, Maki Takuma is in charge of sound effects, and bermei.inazawa is composing the music. Kazuya Takahashi serves as executive producer.
Ōshima launched the manga on Kadokawa’s TATESC Comic webcomic label back in December 2022, with the first compiled book volume released in March 2024. With its full-color vertical format and tear-jerking premise, the series has carved out a quiet but loyal following — and the short-anime format feels like a natural fit for its intimate, slice-of-life storytelling.
More details, including the theme songs and episode count, are expected in the coming weeks as the January premiere approaches.
