AI agents can now log into your accounts without ever seeing your password. 1Password launched 1Password for Agents on Thursday, a new platform that lets users authorize agents to sign into their personal accounts on their behalf while keeping the actual credentials locked away.

Here’s how it works: when an agent attempts to log in, a unique digital key is sent to 1Password to confirm the agent’s digital identity. The user then gets an alert about the login attempt and personally confirms the request. 1Password then fills in the credentials for the agent itself, letting it complete the task at hand — without the agent ever touching your password.
1Password for Agents: Which AI Agents Are Supported
Users can pick their agent of choice, including Claude Duet from Anthropic, OpenAI’s Dots and ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot, Meta’s Muse, and agents from the AI assistant startup Town. 1Password says it is working with more companies to expand the service.
“Handing over a password, secret, or credential is a common shortcut to an agent, but can leave people with sensitive information in places they can no longer control,” the company said in a blog post. The new tool gives people a trusted way to delegate tasks to personal AI agents while keeping control of the secrets those tasks require.
Banks Are Alarmed by Agentic Activity
The launch lands on the same day Axios reported that U.S. banks have begun detecting agentic activity inside user accounts. This isn’t necessarily rogue agents pilfering accounts — it reflects consumers increasingly letting automated services act on their behalf, including on financial matters. But bankers described the situation as “horrifying,” and a Chase spokesperson said customers “should not give their usernames and passwords to anyone.” The big problem: most banks can’t tell whether agentic activity is tied to a legitimate user request or not.
