“The Substitute” plot: a crime on CSAT day

The series follows three young men whose conflicting desires and personal struggles push them toward an irreversible crime on the day of the college entrance exam. At the center is a top-ranking student from a low-income family attending a prestigious private high school on a special scholarship — who is forced to take the exam on behalf of a blackmailer who knows his secret.

The new poster captures Nam Jae Yeop (Bae Hyeon Seong) and Kang Geon Tae (Cha Kang Yoon) staring ahead with steely determination, an OMR answer sheet superimposed over them. The two are headed in the same direction but driven by different desires — raising the question of which answers they’ll choose when their futures are at stake.

“The Substitute” cast

Bae Hyeon Seong plays Nam Jae Yeop, a seemingly perfect all-rounder with wealth, looks and top grades — but his flawless life is a facade, and he starts spiraling out of control like a grenade with its safety pin pulled. Cha Kang Yoon transforms into Kang Geon Tae, the scholarship student desperate to escape poverty who accepts an unjust offer he can’t refuse.

Park Yoon Ho plays Joo Hee Dong, who looks up to Geon Tae as his role model, and their friendship starts to fracture with Nam Jae Yeop’s arrival. Acclaimed actors Uhm Ji Won, Park Hyuk Kwon and Baek Ji Won round out the cast, adding serious depth.
