BLACKPINK’s Lisa is facing harsh criticism following the release of her new single “Tarantino”, with netizens taking to X to share brutally honest reactions to the track. The song arrived on October 23 alongside her latest EP, Press Play.
The new single follows Lisa’s previous release “SaWaDiKa,” which made waves when it dropped in September. This time, however, the response from some listeners has been far less warm.
Lisa’s “Tarantino” Single Sparks Backlash on Social Media
“Tarantino” takes inspiration from legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, with Lisa putting her own spin on the world of action movies. The accompanying music video casts the BLACKPINK star as an action heroine fighting her way through a hotel to deliver a letter to her favorite director.
While the Hollywood-inspired concept is clear, not everyone has been impressed with the song itself. Critics on X questioned its sound, with some posts calling it “unlistenable” and questioning whether music is Lisa’s calling.
Many comments also drew comparisons to ADÉLA’s viral hit “Nicole Kidman,” with some listeners suggesting Lisa is trying to recreate the attention surrounding that track. Others accused the release of leaning on promotional hype rather than connecting organically with listeners.
What Is on Lisa’s Press Play EP?
Despite the mixed reactions, “Tarantino” marks another step in Lisa’s solo career. Press Play features “SaWaDiKa,” “V12,” “Cobra,” “Tarantino,” “Cut U Off,” and “Sweat.” Lisa previously explained that the project was inspired by her journey and Thai roots, with each track having its own character and style — comparing the EP to a movie that listeners are invited to press play on.
Whether “Tarantino” eventually finds a wider audience or remains a divisive release among listeners remains to be seen.
