Jung Yong Hwa Ends Up In Hong Seung Hee’s Hospital Room In “Oh! My Guard” Premiere

The premiere of “Oh! My Guard” opens with a scene nobody saw coming. Newly released stills from the first episode show CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa ending up in the hospital room of Hong Seung Hee’s character — and the mystery of why he is there is the hook the drama wants viewers chasing from night one.

“Oh! My Guard” is a new romance drama that tells the unpredictable love story of Uhm Tae Bong, an A-list actor with a fatal flaw, and Oh Hae Ra, a mysterious woman who believes she is Cha Hong Doo, the female lead of his drama. The premise alone promises a playful collision between fiction and reality, and the premiere leans straight into it.

Oh! My Guard Premiere: Uhm Tae Bong in Oh Hae Ra’s Hospital Room

In the newly released stills, Uhm Tae Bong winds up in the hospital room of reclusive chaebol heiress Oh Hae Ra. As Hae Ra remains fast asleep and oblivious to his presence, Tae Bong sits next to her hospital bed and reads a script while watching over her.

The photos raise two questions at once: why is Uhm Tae Bong visiting Oh Hae Ra in the hospital, and why is he reading lines from a script in such an unexpected location? For a drama built on the fantasy of meeting your favourite drama protagonist in real life, a hospital-room script reading is a wonderfully strange place to start.

Two Different Worlds Collide in Oh! My Guard

The drama’s production team teased that from the very first episode, Uhm Tae Bong and Oh Hae Ra — who have been living in completely different worlds — will become repeatedly entangled. In particular, the unbelievable circumstances that lead Tae Bong to meet Hae Ra in a hospital room will steer their relationship in an unexpected direction.

That entanglement is the engine of the show. He is a top star with a fatal flaw; she is a reclusive heiress convinced she is the heroine of his drama. Put them in the same room, asleep and awake, script in hand, and the line between the drama within the drama and real life starts to blur immediately.

The production team put it as an invitation to viewers: starting today, enjoy the drama while imagining what it would be like to meet your favourite drama protagonist in real life and fall in love with them just like a drama. It is a fantasy premise, but the premiere grounds it in a quiet, oddly tender image — a famous actor sitting beside a stranger’s hospital bed, reading his lines.

“Oh! My Guard” premieres on October 24 at 10:50 p.m. KST. If the first episode delivers on its strange, romantic setup, the hospital room will be remembered as the place where two different worlds first collided.
