Jaylen Brown Claims No Beef With Jayson Tatum, But Says He Should ‘Stay Ready at All Times’

Jaylen Brown says there is “no beef” between him and former Boston teammate Jayson Tatum — but the Philadelphia 76ers star could not resist adding a playful warning. “He should stay ready at all times,” Brown said after the Sixers beat Milwaukee on Saturday night.

The latest round of public back-and-forth began when Tatum addressed the pair’s relationship after the Celtics beat the Knicks. Tatum had said in a video on his YouTube channel that he was “just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world” by Brown’s offseason trade to Philadelphia. Brown responded on Instagram with a baseball cap emoji — slang for something that is not true.

Asked about the situation, Tatum sighed before speaking at length, saying he had no animosity toward Brown and that the frustrating part was how the conversation had shifted away from what they accomplished together, including winning a championship, and turned into “this drama type of thing.”

Jaylen Brown’s Lamb Chops Response to Jayson Tatum

Brown, speaking after Saturday’s win, agreed with Tatum’s “no beef” assessment — mostly. “I saw that he said, ‘It’s no beef.’ And I think he’s right, there’s no beef,” Brown said. “Jayson comes from a wonderful family, we’ve accomplished some great things, he’s a hell of a basketball player and he’s got a great PR team.”

Then came the punchline that had reporters laughing: “It’s no beef, but it might be little lamb chops and some gravy, you know what I mean? He should stay ready at all times.” Brown repeated the line across several answers, insisting there was no real feud while making clear the on-court rivalry is very much alive.

When Do Brown and Tatum Meet Next?

Brown said he has no plans to talk to Tatum before Boston’s first visit to Philadelphia this season on November 10. “We’ve both got so much stuff in front of us,” he said. The second meeting — Brown’s return to TD Garden — is set for January 21.

The two spent nine years together as Celtics teammates, growing from young draft picks into champions. Both have spoken glowingly at times about that run. But after an offseason trade that sent Brown to Philadelphia for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks, the relationship now plays out in public — one playful jab at a time.
