UCF Stuns No. 2 BYU 39-31 in Double Overtime for First Top-Five Win in Program History

UCF pulled off the biggest win in program history on Saturday, stunning previously unbeaten No. 2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime in Orlando. Quarterback Keyone Jenkins threw the winning touchdown in the second extra period, and the Knights’ defense sealed it with a goal-line stand.

UCF Stuns No. 2 BYU 39-31 in Double Overtime

Needing a touchdown and a two-point conversion to force a third overtime, BYU drove all the way to the UCF 4-yard line. But quarterback Bear Bachmeier threw three straight incompletions, the last a fourth-down pass to Walker Lyons that fell incomplete, and the Knights stormed the field with their first-ever win over a top-five team.

It was a stunning result for a UCF side that entered the game at 4-3, against a BYU team that had climbed to No. 2 in the country a week after knocking off Notre Dame. The loss drops the Cougars to 6-1 and throws the Big 12 race wide open.

Wild Finish in Regulation: Blocked Field Goal Forces Overtime

The drama started long before overtime. UCF had a chance to win in regulation, driving toward a potential game-winning field goal — only for the sequence to turn chaotic. Jenkins lost the ball on a play initially ruled a sack, but replay overturned it to an incomplete pass, and BYU was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, moving UCF into kicker Will Stone’s range.

Then BYU blocked Stone’s 47-yard attempt, sending the game to overtime and the Orlando crowd into delirium.

Double Overtime: Jenkins to Brousseau Seals UCF Win

Both teams scored in the first overtime — Bachmeier hit Legend Glasker for a 28-yard touchdown, answered by Jenkins’ scrambling 25-yard scoring strike to Josh Derry. In the second overtime, Jenkins found tight end Grayson Brousseau for the go-ahead score, then connected with Tyren Hornes for the two-point conversion to make it 39-31.

Jenkins finished with 293 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Hornes caught six passes for 137 yards. Bachmeier threw for 257 yards for BYU, with Kyler Kasper hauling in six catches for 129 yards.

UCF’s reward is a place in college football lore — and a short week before their annual Space Game against Baylor on Friday, October 30. BYU, meanwhile, will look to rebound at home against Arizona State.
