Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 Synopsis: Asta, Magna and Zora Join the Fight

According to the official synopsis, the episode opens with Asta rushing to Nacht’s aid in his moment of crisis. Fusing with Liebe through Devil Union, Asta confronts Lilith, one of the supreme devils, in a battle that pushes the young magic knight to his limits.

Elsewhere, Magna and Zora of the Black Bulls arrive to back up Jack the Ripper, who is locked in combat with Dante of the Dark Triad. Dante is now wielding 100% of his devil power, and he remains supremely confident, boasting an overwhelming amount of magical power that few in the Clover Kingdom could hope to match.

Magna’s New Spell: Soul Chain Deathmatch

The preview’s biggest reveal is Magna’s secret weapon. After six months of development, the hot-headed Black Bull unleashes a brand-new spell: Secret Flame Magic: Soul Chain Deathmatch. It is the kind of gamble only Magna would take, and it speaks to how far he has come since his early days as the squad’s loud, scrappy fire mage.

Even so, Dante remains a formidable opponent thanks to his Body Magic, which lets him shrug off damage that would finish most fighters. But Magna refuses to back down, standing his ground against the Dark Triad member with the very “guts” that earned him Captain Yami’s recognition in the first place.

The episode also continues the season’s momentum after the special Devil Union Asta visual revealed following Episode 3, and fans will get to hear WANIMA’s opening theme, “Kienai Riyuu” (The Reason That Won’t Disappear), over the new footage.

Black Clover Season 2: Where to Watch and What Came Before

The Black Clover manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2015 to August 2023 before moving to Jump GIGA, and it concluded on May 1 after eleven years of serialization. The original 170-episode anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot aired from 2017 to 2021, while the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King premiered on June 16 and streams on Netflix.

For newcomers, Crunchyroll describes the story as the tale of Asta and Yuno, two orphans raised at the same church. Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical power, while Asta is the only person in the world born without any magic at all. Armed with a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic, Asta refuses to give up on his dream of becoming the Wizard King.

With the Spade Kingdom arc heating up and Dante at full power, Episode 5 looks set to be one of the new season’s most explosive outings yet.
