CMLL announced the match on October 27, noting that the Cathedral of Lucha Libre is sold out for the show, with fans able to watch live at the Leyenda level. The announcement sets up a fascinating clash of styles between two wrestlers who already know each other well.
Darby Allin vs. Hechicero: AEW Teammates Turned Opponents
Both men are under contract to All Elite Wrestling, and Hechicero also holds a dual deal with CMLL. He is a member of the Don Callis Family in AEW, which makes this singles meeting even more intriguing, as faction lines blur once the two step into a CMLL ring.
Allin is the reigning AEW TNT Champion, and his daredevil, high-risk style has made him one of the most popular wrestlers in AEW. Hechicero, by contrast, is a master technician and the reigning CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, a wrestler whose mat-based cruelty can ground even the most explosive opponents.
Darby Allin Last Time at Arena Mexico
Allin last wrestled inside Arena Mexico at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico, where he teamed with Chris Jericho and Mistico to defeat the Don Callis Family trio of Hechicero, Kazuchika Okada, and Kevin Knight. That history adds a layer of revenge to the October 30 singles match, with Hechicero looking to settle the score one-on-one.
For CMLL, booking a reigning AEW champion against its own world heavyweight champion, even in a non-title bout, is a statement about the depth of the AEW-CMLL partnership. For fans, it is a dream-style matchup: Allin’s reckless dives against Hechicero’s punishing submissions, under the bright lights of Arena Mexico.
