The live-action film of Ryō Nakama’s High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku has shared a new clip showing the Ietani family performing a concert at their school’s cultural festival, featuring the original song “Kizuna”. The clip, streamed on the film’s official website, gives fans their best look yet at the family comedy in action ahead of its Japanese release.

The film stars Shingo Katori as father Ichiro, Riisa Naka as mother Shizuka, Jun Saitō as eldest son Kōtarō and Yuno Nagao as younger sister Haruka. Tôichirô Rutô directs from a script by Makoto Ueda of Europe Kikaku, while Yuzu performs the theme song “Kore mo Seishun da” (This is Also Youth).
The story, adapted from Nakama’s manga, begins with Kotaro about to start his first year of high school, full of hope for a wonderful new school life — only for his dreams to be upended when his entire family enrols alongside him. The result is a family-and-school-life gag comedy that mixes familiar classroom antics with the chaos of having mum, dad and siblings in the same hallways.
Nakama launched the manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2020 and ended it in February 2023, with the 11th and final compiled volume published in July 2023. Viz Media and MANGA Plus both publish the series in English digitally, and Viz Media is also releasing the manga in compiled volume form digitally.
The film will open in Japan on January 8, a delay from its originally planned fall 2026 opening. With its festival-concert clip now out, the countdown to the Ietani family’s big-screen debut is officially on — and if the “Kizuna” performance is anything to go by, the school festival is going to be loud.
