Kim Ji Young Criticized Over Leather Jacket and Sneakers at Choi Bool Am Funeral

On October 30, Kim Ji Young visited the funeral home of the late Choi Bool Am, set up at Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, alongside her husband, actor Nam Sung Jin, to offer condolences.

That day, the actress wore a black leather jacket, dark skinny jeans, and white sneakers, paired with a handbag featuring a gold chain decoration — and her relatively heavy makeup also drew attention. After photos of her appearance circulated online, criticism erupted, with some netizens calling the outfit inappropriate for a funeral.

Netizens Divided: Inappropriate Attire or Excessive Judgment?

Others pushed back hard, arguing that judging someone’s sincerity of mourning based on clothing is excessive, and that harsh criticism of personal attire at a funeral was itself inappropriate. The split debate quickly became the story itself.

Kim Ji Young and Nam Sung Jin shared a special bond with the late Choi Bool Am, having worked closely with him for years through the MBC drama Country Diary. In an interview with reporters after the visit, Kim Ji Young said: “He was like a father and teacher. We were always grateful, and he was very precious and important to us… I pray that he rests peacefully in eternity.” She then turned away in tears, with Nam Sung Jin comforting her by patting her shoulder.
