Video of Pete Hegseth went viral this week, showing the Defense Secretary struggling to keep up with military members in training exercises. On Friday morning, the hosts of “The View” simply cackled at the footage, making fun of Hegseth for struggling so much after such big talk about the high standards the military should have.
The ABC hosts watched the video during the day’s Hot Topics, delighting in his falling behind and struggling, calling out “Look, look, look!” as he failed. After the clip ended, moderator Whoopi Goldberg was left with just one question.
“What is he overcompensating for?” she wondered.
“Girl…” host Ana Navarro shot right back.
After having a few more laughs, host Alyssa Farah Griffin was quick to chime in that, “That guy would not get through my Pilates class.” The host then noted that previous Secretaries of Defense would also work out with the military, but none struggled so badly, and certainly none of them were “thirst bots,” trying to score social media points for said workouts.
Meanwhile, host Sara Haines called out Hegseth’s recent tirades about fitness in the military.
“Don’t be the guy saying ‘No fatties, no beardos, no weirdos, no slowpokes,’ and then be the slowpoke. You can’t do that part in the video,” she joked.
Navarro quickly pointed out that Hegseth never called out “slow pokes” specifically, prompting Haines to admit she added that descriptor just for him.
“At least say no videos or photographs if you’re that guy,” Haines added. “I mean, seriously?”
“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.

Mike Ditka, the fiery NFL legend and analyst who exuded toughness, was a part-time actor and inspired the classic recurring Saturday Night Live about “Da Bears,” died today. He was 86.
His family announced the news in a statement Friday, but did not provide a cause or place of death.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike Ditka,” his family’s statement reads. “While the world knew Mike as a Hall of Fame football player, legendary coach, and leader of the Chicago Bears‘ Super Bowl XX championship team, we knew him as the heart of our family.”
Ditka was a star player for the Chicago Bears and later two other teams from 1961-72, becoming the first tight end elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That was followed by a legendary coaching career that saw him lead the 1985 Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl Championship. That team lost just one game all season en route to the title and is widely considered among the greatest in NFL history.
He also was a longtime NFL TV analyst, starting with NBC in 1993, shortly after his coaching career ended. He then worked for CBS in the early 2000s before joining ESPN in 2004, contributing to its Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs through 2015. Ditka also also did analysis during the cable’s Monday Night Football doubleheader games in 2007 and 2008.

Born on October 18, 1939, in Cambridge, Pennsylvania, Ditka played his college ball at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named an All-American in his senior year. Drafted fifth overall by the Bears in the 1961 AFL Draft, he became the pre-merger league’s Rookie of the Year. He went on to play with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys before retiring after the 1972 season.
He was hired to coach the Bears in 1982 and led them to the 1984 NFC title game. The next season was the special one. Rife with colorful star players including Jim McMahon, Walter Payton, Michael Singletary and enormous rookie William “The Refrigerator” Perry, the 1985 Bears blew through the competition, losing only once en route to the championship.
The team also is famous — some would argue infamous — for recording “The Super Bowl Shuffle,” a tongue-mostly-in-cheek rap song released during that regular season. The charity project became a sensation, narrowly missing the Billboard Top 40 and earning a Grammy nomination.
Ditka was a popular TV pitchman and did some acting on the side. He played himself opposite Will Ferrell in the 2005 youth-soccer comedy Kicking & Screaming, in the 1993 finale of NBC’s Cheers and on episodes of L.A. Law, Coach, Becker and Entourage. He portrayed a football coach on two episodes of the network’s 3rd Rock from the Sun in the late ’90s.
He also guested on late-night talk shows hosted by Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Jay Leno and others and was interviewed for many documentaries including ’85: The Greatest Team in Pro Football History and Requiem for a Running Back.
But among his most famous TV moments were ones where he didn’t even appear. In 1991, NBC’s Saturday Night Live debuted “Bill Swerski’s Superfans,” a wildly popular recurring sketch about devoted followers of “Da Bears” and their iconic Coach Ditka. The likes of George Wendt, Joe Mantegna, John Goodman and SNL’s Chris Farley, Mike Myers and Robert Smigel and others downed beers and brats as they extolled their sports icons with a genuine reverence. The sketches remain embedded in pop culture lore.
Information on survivors and a memorial service was not immediately available.

EXCLUSIVE: Emma Cline’s bestselling novel The Guest, looks to be headed to the big screen as Deadline is hearing A24 and Square Peg are in negotiations for rights to the book, with Sadie Sink in talks to star in and Lorene Scafaria in talks to write and direct a feature film. Sink will also produce alongside Square Peg.
Published in 2024 by Penguin Random House, the novel follows a calculating grifter who navigates the treacherous world of summer in the Hamptons. The book was longlisted for the Pen/Faulkner Award, and was named a Belletrist Book Club pick and a best book of the year by the New Yorker, Time, NPR, the Washington Post, Financial Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, Glamour, Newsweek, Good Housekeeping and more.
Studios and stars have been chasing rights since The Guest hit shelves, with Sink being among its biggest fans. When word got rights were hitting the market over the summer, sources say Sink moved fast and quickly attached herself to the package, with Scafaria joining shortly after.
Insiders say there were around 12 other buyers in the mix for the auction, but ultimately the Sink-Scafaria package from A24 and Square Peg won out. The studio is now in exclusive negotiations for rights.
With her series Stranger Things coming to an end this past winter, Sink has hit the ground running with the next stage of her career, recently starring as Jean Grey opposite Tom Holland in the record-breaking Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Marvel pic X-Men, which begins production at the top of the year.
Scarfaria is best known for her Lionsgate drama Hustlers, starring Jennifer Lopez. She also directed a handful of episodes of HBO’s Emmy-winning Succession.
Sink is repped by WME and Peikoff Mahan. Scarfaria is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer Dern Weber.

Other Mommy looks to be firmly in charge of the weekend box office as The Social Reckoning seeks to find more engagement.
Jessica Chastain leads Universal Pictures’ Other Mommy, which collected $3.6 million from Thursday previews. Director Rob Savage‘s horror title opens in 3,200 North American theaters, with the studio projecting a $20 million opening for the movie about a sinister entity showing up in a young girl’s closet.
Carrying a $19 million production budget, Other Mommy will not have the benefit of critical support, as the movie holds a rough 18 percent approval rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Richard Lawson wrote that the movie is “an attractive but mostly vacuous collection of jumpy bits and half-baked mythology.”
Also debuting this weekend is Sony Pictures’ The Social Reckoning, which grossed $650,000 from Thursday previews. The $30 million-budgeted film opens in 2,600 North American theaters, with the studio expecting around $7 million for the frame. By comparison, last week’s Tom Cruise-led Digger pulled in $1.2 million in previews on its way to just $8 million for the weekend, although that Warner Bros. title holds a much heftier budget.

Aaron Sorkin helmed the fact-based follow-up to 2010’s The Social Network, director David Fincher’s beloved feature about the founding of Facebook that earned Sorkin an Academy Award for his screenplay. Jesse Eisenberg, who landed an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, did not return for the new movie, with Jeremy Strong taking over the part. The Social Network opened at No. 1 with $22.4 million before reaching a global cume of $224 million.
Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White also star in the thriller about a Facebook staffer (Madison) working with a journalist (White) to expose concerning truths about the company. Critics have been mixed, with The Social Reckoning holding a 57 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, although THR chief film critic David Rooney’s review heralded it as an “engrossing whistleblower thriller.”
During a recent conversation with THR, Sorkin left the door open for a third Facebook-centric film. “Whenever I’m done with something, I’m always like Sisyphus at the bottom of the mountain again,” the filmmaker explained. “This movie opens Oct. 9. On Oct. 10, I’m going to be at the bottom of the mountain, and I will have no idea. So if a good story comes along and it takes place at Facebook, sure.”
Also hitting select theaters this weekend are Alex Gibney’s documentary Musk, Chris Rock’s Misty Green and biographical drama Tenzing.
