Sacha Baron Cohen, Ali G Look-Alikes Tour London for Movie ‘Who Iz I?’

Published

on

Sacha Baron Cohen and 300 fans, all of whom were dressed like the performer’s satirical character Ali G, took to the streets of London on Sunday ahead of the release of Ali G: Who Iz I?

Cohen was decked out in a yellow “Ali G” hoodie and matching pants as the hip-hop journalist that he originated on the sketch comedy series Da Ali G Show, which debuted in the U.K. in 2000 and later aired on HBO. Accompanied by the hundreds of individuals dressed similarly, some of whom were sporting wrap-around sunglasses and even fake goatees, the star led his cohorts on a tour of London landmarks that culminated in Cohen overseeing the Ali G Lookalike Competition.

Cohen’s Ali G and the look-alikes rode double-decker buses, enjoyed a boat party on the Thames, posed for photo opportunities near Big Ben and Marble Arch and ordered hundreds of hamburgers at the McDonald’s in London’s famed Leicester Square. The journey ended at Cineworld Leicester Square, where Cohen awarded a winner for the contest.

The festivities were timed to promote the forthcoming comedy movie Ali G: Who Iz I?, with Cohen starring and making his directorial feature debut. Amazon MGM Studios will release the comedy in theaters Oct. 23 for just one week, with the theatrical strategy designed to create a special experience and add urgency to the opportunity to see the movie on the big screen before it hits Prime Video.

“Me iz well proud to have staged de biggest event in London since de Paris Olympics 3 years ago — de bloke who counts Donald Trumps crowds said dere woz over 800,000 Ali Gs on de streets!” Ali G said in a statement in his trademark dialect. “Dis haz gone so well me iz gonna make it an annual event every five years and best of all it went wivout trouble and it woz a massive boost to de London economy — in fact TK Maxx on Oxford Street had its busiest day in a decade wiv over 300K worf of goods shoplifted. De next biggest crowdz in London will be for me movie Ali G: Who Iz I? in cinemas for one weekend only October 23nd and available shortly after at Egham Market on DVDs me haz burned. Westside.”

The character’s official Instagram account posted multiple videos that Cohen recorded during the London tour. One video, which is seen above, showed the fans following the star in reciting such Ali G catchphrases as “Booyakasha!” Ali G: Who Iz I? centers on the titular character learning that his girlfriend is eight months pregnant, leading him to visit America to prepare for the child’s arrival.

Known for his bravado and London street slang, Ali G made his big-screen debut with director Mark Mylod’s 2002 feature Ali G Indahouse. Da Ali G Show also featured Cohen’s characters Borat Sagdiyev and Brüno Gehard, who would both go on to lead their own movies. Borat made his big-screen debut in 2006 with Larry Charles’ acclaimed film Borat and returned in 2020 with Oscar-winning sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Meanwhile, Charles helmed the 2009 movie Brüno.

Robert Pattinson Shares Update On ‘The Batman Part II’: “We Are Going To Figure It All Out”

Published

on

The Batman Part II suffered another setback when production on the DC superhero film was paused.

Now, the film’s star Robert Pattinson is sharing an update on the future of the Matt Reeves-directed movie.

“Yeah, we’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out,” Pattinson told Official Pop Drop while promoting Primetime.

On Monday, October 5, Deadline reported that the studio released a statement about the pause.

“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” the studio said in a statement. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

The cast of The Batman sequel includes Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell returning respectively as Batman, Alfred and Penguin, with new additions Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.

During the premiere for The Drama earlier this year, Pattinson teased The Batman sequel, telling Deadline, “The script is extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really special movie and very, very different.”

Pattinson noted that the sequel to the 2022 DC Studios film will be different from the first, which was something he was surprised by, adding, “It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings.”

The Batman Part II is still set for release on February 18, 2028, for now.

RJ Mitte Death: Bryan Cranston Mourns Breaking Bad Co-Star

Published

on

Almost 20 years after Breaking Bad began, Bryan Cranston tonight lamented the death Monday of the man who played his son on the acclaimed series.

“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died,” Cranston said on his Instagram feed today. Actor and disability-rights activist Mitte died Monday at the age of 34 at his home in Brownsville, Texas

In his post Cranston mourned Mitte, who played Walter White Jr, to the fictional father who sometimes went by his meth kingpin moniker of the surname German physicist Werner Heisenberg. Praised as one of the great TV series ever, the multi-Emmy winning Vince Gilligan created Breaking Bad ran from 2008 to 2013.

As Cranston wrote tonight, Mitte “was only 14 years old” when the show started production.

“That kid was pretty raw when we started shooting the pilot in February of 2007, but little by little we watched him grow into a really fine actor,” Cranston said of his co-star. “He parlayed his experience on the show to be a vocal advocate for performers with disabilities, and was the head of a philanthropic organization with a focus on helping the disabled community.”

“All that promise and potential now is such a loss.”

Noting his on-air son’s cause of death, Cranston added: “It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life. Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago – figuring out when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future…”

“But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed…

I’ll miss you, son.”

Along with co-stars Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul, Cranston and Mitte were together on stage at the 2024 SAG Awards in a BB reunion of sorts. The quartet were presenting the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Breaking Bad actually won that particular SAG Award in 2014.

An autopsy of Mitte will be performed in the coming days, Cameron County officials said Monday

Danny Trejo’s Son Claims Actor “Never Heard” Of Ben Shapiro

Published

on

As Danny Trejo is met with backlash over his involvement in Daily Wire‘s latest project, his son is coming to the actor’s defense.

This weekend, Gilbert Trejo claimed that his father had “never heard of Ben Shapiro” or “what kind of guy he is” until two weeks into production own Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend’s Pawn Shop, which has been described as a pro-ICE film that seemingly dramatizes the killing of Renée Good.

“For anyone seeing this shit with my dad…” he begain a statement on his Instagram Story, which was shared by The San Fernando Valley Sun. “He was booked on a film, it’s not pro-ICE, it’s not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as ‘a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace.’

“He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy. About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved. My 82-year-old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is. My dad contractually can’t bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn’t even release the statement he wanted to.”

Gilbert continued, “It’s fucked up. He’s handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts. Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google’s searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.”

Last week, Danny Trejo broke his silence following backlash to his role in the movie. “Hey everyone. I want to address some social media comments about me,” he said. “Make no mistake. I am a proud Mexican who has always been and will always be a supporter of my community. I am also obviously, pro-immigrant. I am not pro-ICE. I know where I come from and I know our struggles. I am an actor. My job is to tell a story. God Bless you, Danny.”

The synopsis for Pawn Shop reads: ‘When chaos hits the streets of Minneapolis, a young federal agent is left alone after his partner is seriously hurt and must find a way to survive an increasingly dangerous situation. Seeking shelter inside a neighborhood pawn shop, he becomes trapped with a traditional Hispanic father and his progressive college-age son, forcing three very different men to confront fear, conflicting beliefs and a crisis that tests their courage and humanity.”

Since filming began, locals have protested the alleged use of blank gunshots, pyrotechnics and a staged car wreck without properly notifying residents and businesses, as well as its opening scene, which appears to dramatize ICE’s fatal shooting of Renée Good in Minnesota back in January.

Production was temporarily suspended earlier this month, resuming with a revised film permit last Tuesday, requiring the crew to ensure food pantry access for locals to the Livingston Food Resource Center, and shielding the public both from the shooting of violent scenes, as well as from noise. The production also agreed to address backlash to their use of private security, ensuring there would be no policing or harassing of locals on nearby public streets.

Shapiro decried the suspension as “a violation of the First Amendment,” calling the film’s critics “censorious jackasses” who oppose free speech.
