RJ Mitte Dead: ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Remembered by Actors

Published

on

Tragedy struck Hollywood on Monday when RJ Mitte, the actor and disability advocate best known for playing Walter White Jr. on “Breaking Bad,” died at the age of 34. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the actor’s representatives said in a statement announcing the news.

Mitte was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1992 and moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue an acting career. He rose to prominence for his role on “Breaking Bad” beginning in 2008 and appeared in 57 episodes throughout the show’s five-season run.

After being diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three years old, Mitte dedicated much of his personal and professional life to advocating for disabled actors. He served as a spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA on topics relating to accessibility and portrayals of disabilities and worked as a celebrity ambassador for the United Cerebral Palsy organization.

Mitte’s tragic passing caused an outpouring support among his fellow actors on Monday afternoon, with many remembering him as both a talented performer and a compassionate public speaker who never stood down from what he believed was right. Tributes poured in from Mitte’s “Breaking Bad” collaborators, allies from his advocacy work, and fellow actors who admired his work from afar.

“My best is shattered. There will never be another like RJ Mitte,” Marlee Matlin wrote, summarizing the thoughts of countless others. “You’ll always have a place in my heart.”

Keep reading for an updating roundup of reactions to Mitte’s death.

High Potential Will Debut After Super Bowl 2027

Published

on

“High Potential” is getting a big boost thanks to the NFL. An episode of the Kaitlin Olson-starring drama will air on ABC and Disney+ after Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027.

The third season of “High Potential” will premiere in early 2027. Outside of this Valentine’s Day drop, new episodes will debut Tuesdays on ABC and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.

The comedy’s Super Bowl placement is proof of how well the series is performing as broadcasters typically only schedule their best-rated or most highly anticipated shows after the Super Bowl.

“High Potential” finished the 2025-2026 broadcast season as the No. 1 show among adults aged 18- to 49-years-old, the key demographic for advertisers. It was also the No. 3 show in terms of total viewers over 35 days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms, securing over 16 million viewers during this time period.

“High Potential” follows a single mom with an exceptional mind and a knack for solving crimes. In addition to Olson, the series stars Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb and Judy Reyes. The drama is produced by 20th Television and is based on the French series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI).” Drew Goddard created the series in the U.S.

Goddard and Sarah Esberg executive produce the show for Goddard Textiles alongside Nora and Lilla Zuckerman and Olson. Andrea Massaro, also of Goddard Textiles, serves as a co-executive producer.

While ABC and Disney+ are betting on “High Potential,” The Walt Disney Company’s other major streamer will be going in another direction. Viewers who watch the 2027 Super Bowl on Hulu will see the game be followed by the premiere of Dan Fogelman’s NFL series, “The Land.” Starring Christopher Meloni, Mandy Moore, Chace Crawford, Sam Corlett, Tanner Zagarino, Chloe Bennet, Bridget Moynahan, William H. Macy and Omar Epps, “The Land” revolves around the Cleveland Browns. After several disappointing seasons, head coach Danny Roarke (Meloni) has only one shot at turning around his football team: a newly drafted quarterback who just so happens to be his son.

Hulu is home to “Paradise,” Fogelman’s other show, which has become a critical and audience hit. After debuting new episodes on Super Bowl Sunday, “The Land” will air its first two episodes on Feb. 15. New episodes will then debut weekly.

‘High Potential’ In Post-Super Bowl Slot For 2-Parter On ABC & Disney+

Published

on

ABC‘s last time carrying the Super Bowl in February 2006 was a memorable one, with then-hot sophomore drama Grey’s Anatomy delivering one of the most talked about lead-out programs in the history of the Big Game, Part 1 of a bomb-themed two-episode arc that drew 38.1 million viewers.

Twenty years later, ABC is picking up where it left off, slotting its flagship series that is also early in its run, High Potential, immediately following Super Bowl LXI on ABC and Disney+ on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027. Like Grey’s Anatomy, I hear High Potential is planning a two-parter, with the special post-Super Bowl episode as Part 1, ending on a cliffhanger that will be resolved in Part 2 airing in the show’s regular time slot the following Tuesday.

The upcoming Season 3 of High Potential will not launch after the Super Bowl; the series starring Kaitlin Olson is expected to return earlier, likely in January. (For the first time in its run, High Potential is not on the fall schedule this season.)

Olson announced the news of the special post-Super Bowl epsiode Monday night in a promo that ran on-air and online during Monday Night Football.

Super Bowl LXI will air on ABC, ESPN and Disney+, which explains why High Potential will stream on Disney+ for the first time outside of the bundle. Its streaming home is on fellow Disney platform Hulu, both for next day episodes and previous seasons.

In 2000, ABC also aired Part 1 of a two-part episode of a popular drama series, The Practice, after the Super Bowl.

High Potential finished the 2025/2026 broadcast season as the No. 1 show in adults 18-49 (3.35 rating) and the No. 3 show among total viewers (16.01 million) over 35 days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms.

The series follows a single mom with an exceptional mind (Olson), whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective.

High Potential stars Olson as Morgan, Daniel Sunjata as Karadec, Javicia Leslie as Daphne, Deniz Akdeniz as Lev “Oz” Ozdil, Amirah J as Ava, Matthew Lamb as Elliot, and Judy Reyes as Selena. 20th Television produces the series, which is based on the French format Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI) and was created in the U.S. by Drew Goddard.

Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles, new showrunners Nora and Lilla Zuckerman and Olson serve as executive producers. Andrea Massaro (Goddard Textiles) is a co-executive producer.
