The newcomers, revealed left to right in the announcement visual, are Daisuke Namikawa as Hideki Noguchi, Hiroto’s high school friend now working in a trendy furniture store; Yoko Hikasa as Yomogi Tachibana, a career woman feeling empty after years of nothing but work; Yume Miyamoto as Akari Yokoyama, Natsumi’s first-ever friend; Yuichiro Umehara as Ryo Ishikawa, a novelist in a slump since his debut; and veteran TV announcer Yuko Naito as the Narrator.
A Story About Doing Your Best at Life
They join an already announced lead trio: Yuma Uchida as the carefree 29-year-old Hiroto Ikuta, Mayu Takahashi as Natsumi Kobayashi, and Rikako Aikawa as Hanae Wada. At 29, Hiroto has no girlfriend, no full-time job, and no plan for the future — and couldn’t be happier. But his breezy outlook isn’t easy for everyone around him to understand in a world full of anxiety and uncertainty.
Behind the scenes, Kei Suezawa directs at Production +h, with character designs by Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!), art direction by Mika Nishimura, and music by Kaori Sawada. It’s a co-production with Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions.
January 2027 Premiere and English Release
The anime premieres in January 2027 on NHK General in Japan, and Viz Media has already announced an English release for 2027. Fans in New York even got an early taste: Viz Media and Japan Society hosted the world premiere of episode one on October 7.
Shinzo launched the manga in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in April 2021, and its gentle, human storytelling has made it one of the most acclaimed slice-of-life manga of recent years.
