A Kingdom’s Last Hope
Directed by Kim Yeong Jo of “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” “Sword & Silence” dramatizes one of the most ambitious chapters in Korean history: how the small kingdom of Silla overcame the far more powerful kingdoms of Goguryeo and Baekje — along with China’s Tang dynasty — to unify the Three Kingdoms.
Park Sung Woong plays Kim Yu Shin, Silla’s foremost general, who stands firm on the battlefield no matter how dire the crisis. Off the field, he is easygoing and approachable to everyone regardless of rank. But the moment he dons his armor, he transforms into a formidable soldier who moves forward with victory as his only objective.
The Teaser’s Battle Cry
The new teaser opens on Kim Yu Shin walking toward the royal court, leaving behind the cries of war-torn people. His bloodstained armor and white-knuckled grip on his sword say everything about the years he has spent fighting across countless battlefields. A voiceover declares: “Your Majesty, you have a general who has fought tirelessly for Silla throughout his life.”
The teaser then plunges into battle, where Kim Yu Shin raises his sword once more to defend a Silla in crisis. “I, Kim Yu Shin, have arrived. Receive my sword!” he roars as he hurls his blade at the enemy. Rallying his soldiers, he urges them to “relish even defeat, and relish even death!” As he shouts “For Silla!” the army charges in unison, with Kim Yu Shin cutting down enemies at the very front of the line.
The emotional peak lands on his solemn vow: “If Silla can survive, I will gladly die here” — a line that lays bare his willingness to put the kingdom before his own life. The production team says the teaser reveals Kim Yu Shin’s firm determination to defend his kingdom at any cost, and asks viewers to look forward to his steadfast leadership as he pursues the monumental goal of unifying the Three Kingdoms on a battlefield where life and death hang in the balance.
