By SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu has been swept up in a fresh wave of dating rumors after unverified claims surfaced online that the idol was spotted in Spain in early October with an alleged girlfriend — and fans are pushing back hard, calling the so-called “proof” fabricated.

What Sparked the Rumors
The controversy began when photos from Mingyu’s trip started circulating on social media, showing the idol alongside friends. Because he recently began his mandatory military enlistment, his presence in Spain quickly drew backlash from netizens questioning his whereabouts during service.
The claims then escalated. New posts alleged “proof” that the trip was with a girlfriend, pointing to a photo of Mingyu on a golf course alongside one shared by an influencer, with posters insisting both were taken at the same location. Some even claimed he has been deliberately liking the influencer’s photos so fans would notice the connection.
Fans Push Back: “Heavily Edited”
Many Carats are having none of it. Supporters have accused antis of fabricating the story entirely, with some users claiming that zooming in on the supposed screenshot proof reveals heavy editing — arguing the “like” was deliberately placed to make it appear as though Mingyu engaged with the influencer’s post specifically.
Others framed the pile-on as sasaeng behavior, writing that digging into an idol’s private life crosses a line: “Let him date in peace.” A separate camp dismissed the outrage as parasocial overreach, arguing that idols dating should be normalized. As of now, neither Mingyu nor Pledis Entertainment has addressed the claims, which remain entirely unverified.
