WWE star Cody Rhodes says the release of the Street Fighter movie is bigger than just his own Hollywood moment — it’s a win for the entire wrestling industry.
The adaptation of the iconic video game franchise has now released around the world, featuring three pro wrestlers in its cast: Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Hirooki Goto.
Rhodes: ‘It’s Kind of Our Moment’
Speaking to Denise Salcedo, Rhodes said he feels lucky to have been offered his role and called the film’s release a moment for all of wrestling to be proud of — noting that having three wrestlers in one major movie is a milestone worth celebrating.
He recalled going to see Guardians of the Galaxy and watching audiences fall in love with Dave Bautista as Drax — the first big laugh being a Batista moment. That, he said, is exactly what he’s hoping for now: three wrestlers, all vastly different from one another, winning over moviegoers who may never have watched a match.
Wrestling’s Hollywood Wave
The Street Fighter casting continues wrestling’s deep crossover into Hollywood. Bautista became the blueprint, followed by John Cena and Dwayne Johnson — but this film is unusual in stacking three active or recently active wrestling stars together in one blockbuster.
With Rhodes also recently revealing he had a meeting at Marvel Studios, his Hollywood trajectory is clearly just getting started. For now, though, he’s savoring the shared victory: a wrestler-packed movie on screens worldwide, and an entire industry taking a bow alongside him.
